You should check out easyC for VEX it is designed for people just like you!
 I promise that you will be able to program your robot in under 15 minutes to drive and move your arm. Just look at the help file real quick and you should be on your way. You can download a trial here: http://www.intelitekdownloads.com/FVC2006/ If you need a FRC copy PM and I'll set you up with a copy of that.
