Yeah, the recent cold snap in Florida was particularly amusing for me, a New England native.

I live further south in Florida than Michelle does, so the coldest it got was in the lower 60's as a daytime high (lows were in the upper 40's). I thought it was pretty funny to see people bundling up in coats, sweaters, hats, and scarves when the temperature outside was a comfortable 60!

I admit, it wasn't tank top weather, and my blood is starting to thin from being in the warmth for so long... but still, I was able to be comfortable in a long sleeved shirt. And I also find that I am still able to get into relatively cool water without much of a problem (haha Tytus)... many Floridians think that it's too cold to go swimming when the water temperature is below 80 degrees!

It's too bad we didn't get more hurricane days this year (there is no hope for snow in Miami). All I got was two days of cancelled classes for Ernesto (which wasn't bad at all... we get way worse severe thunderstorms in Connecticut).

We had about the same high/low. I think we just get a lot of wind chill here, even though I'm in the middle of the state.

We had one day, which we were so posted to make up last Wednesday, which I didn't think was fair because it literally did not rain at all for that hurricane in my county (Osceola).

I lived in New York for seven years, and I was there for one of the big blizzards in the mid 90's. I loved it. I guess I'm a snow person. I traveled to Washington DC in January of my 8th grade year, everyone was in coats and shivering, it was about 9ºF and I was walking around in a sweater.

I wish it would snow here. You northerners should send us southerners some snow.

Re: SNOW DAY

I really wish we'd get some snow this year. Last year mother nature seemed to just love teasing us, snow kept getting forecasted, and on a number of occasions it did snow, but it never stuck! Maybe this year. Regardless I'll be wearing shorts and a t-shirt all year. (I'm not joking, the number of people in this country that aren't in my immediate family and have seen me wear pants more than three times can be counted on one hand, not including formal occasions.)

Re: SNOW DAY

1" maybe... meh.

and well, like it mattered anyway. everyone at my school/team knows:

-Indiana has relatively mild weather
-further more, the city of Carmel has invested in a protective bubble, keeping snow, and "bad" weather out... and its very rare for it to break
-even when theres snow, we still don't get snow days because:
+-Our superintendent is Alaskan
+-She also drives a Hummer
+-When she was in charge of snow day decisions, it didn't matter how much
snow, or how fast it came, there were no snow days

Last year, several of our school buses had accidents... and since they blamed the superintendent, she gave the rights of snow days (rightfully) to the transportation department

During the months of January and February we'll gladly give all of our snow to you, unless of course, we need to melt it for the upcoming water game.

I love New England, It's December 1st, and its 65 degrees here today. Perfect day for shorts and a teeshirt! Albeit raining, the warmth is welcomed with open arms.

Re: SNOW DAY

The earlier forecast here in Michigan expected 3-5 inches of snow today, with sleet and ice in the morning.

I woke up to a wet world though, no ice whatsoever, just raining a cold rain. IT SUCKED, and I am still in school for another 25 minutes...

PS: then the dangerous stuff comes on my way to work... greeeaaaattttt. *sigh*

Re: SNOW DAY

Snow has encased my car. I cannot get it out, therefor I am stuck at home. My mom had to drive me to work. Chicago is all snowy, the lakefront isn't to bad. Columbia has an unofficial snow day, all the suburban kids e-mailed their work to their teachers.

Re: SNOW DAY

In Newton Kansas we have to get 10 to 12 inches of snow to cancel anything. They only exception is that about 2-3 years ago it rained and then froze and then snowed. The ice was so heavy it pulled down powerlines, trees, everything.

Re: SNOW DAY

As a New England native now living in the western suburbs on Chicago, snow was a pleasant site. Though claims of "we never get snow days", and "don’t get excited" rung on Thursday, Friday morning I found myself sleeping in and pleased by the snow's good show, here's to many to come! .... Though some people may not like snow as much... I’m a huge fan of that icy white stuff from above! Declaimer, yes I know it snows in the Midwest, just not as much as the northeast I’ve heard.

It is off and on, some years it snows more, others it snows less, things even out. And as for no snow days... I didn't have one since 6th grade. But I had a fire week at college this year.

Re: SNOW DAY

So here in Indiana, we were expecting the worst as we got all of the rain ahead of the snow (which was heading for us) and then we never got anything to stick. It did snow a lot during school today though and there is that little pathetic bit sticking right now.

Re: SNOW DAY

After a weekend in shirtsleeves (high about 65) we have between 10 and 12 inches of the white stuff. It just proves that in Chicago, if you don't like the weather just wait a few minutes. Today and tomorrow bright sun and temps in the single digits for a low, possible.

The team was traveling to Lubbock for Texas BEST and was in some of that bad weather. At one point, the car ahead of us hit an ice patch and started doing donuts down the highway. Our bus driver handled the situation well, trying not to barrel down on it and we slowed over the distance enough to miss the car by a foot. One of our '04 alums came later and ended up in a donut and then in the ditch. The car behind him did the same thing 15 feet further down. The sheriff came along and slowed down that section of highway.

Side note: On Friday, the whole team built a snowman together. It was the first time many of them had seen snow, so the snowman team building experience was something they will always remember. They found a double A battery in the snow for a nose.
