Re: possibility of collaborative scouting through LAN?
Out of curiosity, does STAMP rank purely based on certain items (such as score), or does it have some kind of "overall ranking" that factors in everything (or numerous things)?

Here is our running version of STAMP v1.5. Please play nice. You will notice it is all BS test data, nothing useful. But you will get an idea of all the rankable info. http://www.freedomdown.net/stamp/testing/rankings.php |

Re: possibility of collaborative scouting through LAN?
now, heres a question that came up... Do teams just fill in the data themselves, or is it provided on a server? and, how much interaction happens in between the teams through STAMP?

What should be apparent: someone has to enter this data. The best way to do it is with a team of 6 scouters, one following each robot. What people DO with this data is up to them. Some teams may choose to make it public, others may not. As for working with other teams, feel free! STAMP is set up with user accounts just for this purpose. Talk with other teams that will be attending your regional and create a joint scout team! We know that 6 people is a pretty hefty amount to spare from one's team, so get together with 1 or 2 other teams and your down to 3 or 2. Just as an example, 492 worked with 93 at nationals on Newton to gather data. Pretty much it all comes down to the user's choice. We are not going to say that you MUST share. Sharing is great, it is certainly GP and if that is what you are shooting for then go right ahead. We see the STAMP dev team as just that, a dev team. It is up to you to choose how you use it. In that vein what regional(s) is/are your team attending? If you are headed over to the PACNW in Portland we could certainly work something out. When STAMP v2 starts going into development I expect people to post threads in the scouting section about hooking up, so if you are not coming to PACNW and are interested in working with another team then feel free to be the first. |

Re: possibility of collaborative scouting through LAN?
I like the ability to customize weightings. I think the rankings could be used pretty well, but right now I'm trying to come up with my own ranking algorithm so I'll toy with that for a little while longer.

If you are interested in developing for STAMP please join our mailing list. Regular dev team meetings will start in about 2 weeks. http://www.freelists.org/list/stamp |

Re: possibility of collaborative scouting through LAN?
Having teams scout via LAN connection and STAMP is a great idea. Team 469 has discussed this possibility before. It is very reasonable to bring a router to the various competitions. The team members can use personal laptops or something to connect to the router, and we could also have a server at the competition (we are currently setting up one for our website)
Sounds like a great idea |

Yep. It is also pretty darn easy to set up a server. We set ours up with Easyphp on one of our Windows laptops and installed STAMP. Total setup time was about 10 minutes. That laptop was then able to be used as a client for STAMP as well. |
