Some Suggested Guidelines for The Games Section

We have some wonderful games that are a lot of fun to play. Games like Word Association and Three Worded Story. A good part of the fun is the varied participation of the members of CD. Another part of the fun is the wait. Sometimes a game thread can go a day or several days without adding a new post to it and that's fine. I am very fond of these games and enjoy seeing how everyone thinks as they contribute to the threads. My suggestion would be to allow 5 to 7 posts to occur before you make another contribution. This will allow everyone who enjoys the games to play and it will also allow the games to unfold a little more naturally. If only one or two posters are continually adding to the on-going game, it more or less becomes like a shooting match, only we just shoot ourselves in the foot, taking the fun out of the participation and the games, themselves.

Re: Some Suggested Guidelines for The Games Section

And as an addition to that, kickoff will be coming up soon. I'd be in favor of getting these games played out now, rather than during build. This forum gets busy enough in the build season, and minimizing the non-FRC specific posts during that time is probably a good idea. So, get all your chit chat and games out now, but like said above, it doesn't need a reply every 20 seconds.

Re: Some Suggested Guidelines for The Games Section

I agree and I am a culpriate(Not spelled right) of this too. How about all games that are created from now on in this section must have the rule of not being able to post every 5 posts, this way it will be enforced.

Re: Some Suggested Guidelines for The Games Section

I don't think all games need to fall under the 5 post 'rule' -
we could clarify the games that would benefit from this.

my suggestions would be:

Word Association
3 Worded Story
Have You Ever...

What are some more?

As I just mentioned to Jane in a PM

I think that the signature thread (I could be wrong) used to have a time limit placed on it and that if you tried to post too soon after you just posted, you wouldn't be allowed to. I don't know if that feature is still in place after the upgrade or if a moderator could continue to place that limit upon the other threads currently. I feel that a time limit would work better than a post limit. With a post limit, you could just PM/IM some of your Chief Delphi buddies, and ask them to post so you can post again (trust me I've done this, with the picture wars thread. Not something I'm very proud off.). Having a time limit will prevent that "cheating of the system" (for a lack of better phrase).

As mentioned above, Picture Wars (I might be a little off on the thread title)

Any of the rating threads. It's not fair for the people who use them to improve, if the same people keep posting just to see what people will say and how different the next person will be from the one that just participated.

Word non association is another one, that I've never really understood why we have it in the first place. At lease word association takes some skill.
(oh and wicked awesome if you press control I it'll give you the italics code)

Just a side request, is there anyway to discount Games and "rate the person above you's __________" threads from appearing on the new posts list during the build season?

Yep. If you don't want the entire forum to appear, go to user cp and click "Recent Posts Config." Check all the ones you want to see.

Some thread just deserve to be killed...such as the 1 to 1000 thread. We have been way past 1000 for quite some time.

It was something I had to set on a thread-by-thread basis. I'll have to add that back in.

Re: Some Suggested Guidelines for The Games Section

Short of getting rid of them altogether, dare I suggest that we limit folks to one post per day in each thread within that forum?

When i re-implement the limit -- I'll be making a subforum that has the limit applied to every thread. We'll have to come to an agreement on how often. I think in the past during the off-season it was every 4 hours, and then during the season it was bumped up to 8 or 12 hours.

That doesn't sound long enough for during the build season. Maybe 24+ hours as we should be doing homework when we get home, not waiting for someone to post so we can.

Re: Some Suggested Guidelines for The Games Section

I've set it at 9 hours (what its been for a while).

Let me know if it needs to change, at all.

This is a blanket limit on the whole Games forum.

Grrr... now I have nothing to do during the school day (I love having a laptop). But I agree with the limit and why it's there... I'll just have to create enough to last me through the day....
