I still say that the thing we know is that there will be a game of some kind, played with robots on a field of some sort.

Re: 2007 Official FRC Game Hint / Email Blast

5 is a number
Numbers are fun
Fun is subjective
Subjective is a clue
The Clue is indecipherable
Indecipherable is an adjective
Adjectives describe words
Words help explain things
Things are better explained with pictures
Pictures are an example of this years clue
This years clue is difficult
Difficult must describe the game.

There you have it, the game will be difficult... but...

But is a very short word
Words that are short are often to the point
Pointy things are sharp
Sharp things cut
Cut things are smaller
Smaller things are often more valuable
Valuable things are precious
Precious decribes rare jewels
Rare jewels are also known as diamonds
Diamonds are on diamond plate
Diamond plate is in the clue

Now obviously, Diamond plate must be in the game because it ties in DIRECTLY WITH BUT, as shown above..

Above is higher than below
Below is often considered less
Less is more
More is always better
Better is in the eyes of the beholder
Beholders often look at beauty
Beauty is found on the inside
Inside is where most things robotics have occured

Obviously, once again, the game will take place inside... not outside because that would be silly.

Silly is funny
Funny can be taken with a grain of salt
Salt causes heart conditions
Heart conditions are bad
Bad is not good
Good is yet another adjective
Adjectives describe people
People are smart
Smart is what programmers are
Programmers like code
Code is strings
Strings can be long
Long... LONG

Long... there will be a new time limit which is longer than the previous games.

Games are played for enjoyment
Enjoyment is obtained through fun...
Fun is funny...

It all ties in... The pieces are finally falling into place. It is just so logical, I can't believe no one saw it before.

Re: 2007 Official FRC Game Hint / Email Blast

Oh common, who needs photoshop when you have mspaint.exe?
Inverting the colors makes some of these things this easier to notice.

I'll start off with the less speculative part. The spacing of the diamonds on the diamond plate tell us the size of this piece. The center row seems to contain 12 diamonds. I'm guessing (no diamond plate nearby) that the spacing between each is an inch. Meaning this whole circle is a foot long. The one bet I will make is that if there is a circle of a diamond plate...it'll be a 1.5 foot diameter (Or one or two, whatever the spacing was on diamond plates)

Onto more speculative bits.

Inverted, the presence of 2 or 3 circular rings of different shades around the diamond plate circle is really obvious. A bit of testing seems to indicate that the rings are actually not circular. Someone more skilled in this than I should verify that. Anyway, anyone have any ideas what those rings (and their skew) could mean?

At the bottom right, however, the second ring seems kinda weird.

Those rings seem to me to resemble the appearence of stripes on along a sphere. The outtermost ring might be smaller, which would agree with that. Perhaps this is some kind of rounded hill. (A hemisphere truncated by a plane.)

On the right it looks like some objects on a plane. With a reflection of them above it sorta. I don't have a clue what it means

Re: 2007 Official FRC Game Hint / Email Blast

Please don't flame me, but...
This hint was released Thursday, correct... five days before Christmas.
Five days and "5" as a clue leads me to think we all get a very special Christmas present on Monday. Maybe FIRST wants to mess with our head even more this year than any other year. Hopefully it's a good game like last year.

EDIT: I thought of another idea as well. Maybe the game has something to do with Christmas.

Re: 2007 Official FRC Game Hint / Email Blast

I'm leaning to the baseball tie. Perhaps, you can only move to 2nd base when there is a red light, 3rd when there is a blue light, and home when there is a green light? Or some combination.

The field will remain rectangular.

Colour change in autonomous? Perhaps.

The game piece will be torus'...tori?

No water game.

Hello Local FIRST Teams,

For the Kick-Off, please have one person identified as the field component build person.
Immediately after the Kick-off, these people will meet in the at the entrance of the auditorium to determine the field components the teams need to build.

This will be announced again at the Kick-Off.

Also note, that for teams who want more to do after the season there is an underwater FIRST "style" competition being planned by a FIRST team.

See message for details.

See you at the Kick-Off!!!

Re: 2007 Official FRC Game Hint / Email Blast

I know that it has probably been mentioned before, but my guess is the layout of the field will be five. One center goal and four other corner goals for a total of five. The goals will be goals covered in diamond plate to make them hard to navigate on. Either the goals or the gamepieces (or maybe both?) will have some circular theme. That's just $0.02. The other $0.98 are yours.
