2007 Kickoff Webcast Archive

What usually is the turn around time for the archived footage of kickoff. It's a little early on the west coast, so I want to time-shift it to later for the rest our team.

Re: 2007 Kickoff Webcast Archive

I am not sure how much luck you would have with that. It takes a while to get it online.

However, a program called SDP will let you set up a "VCR" timer function. When the proper time comes, it will rip a Windows Media Player web stream for you. Just provide it with the NASA TV WMV stream url (http://www.nasa.gov/55644main_NASATV_Windows.asx) the night before kickoff, tell it to start recording at 6:55 local time, go to sleep, and you'll wake up with a sizeable WMV of the kickoff on your desktop!

Kickoff is so soon! Exciting!

While FIRST and NASA do their best to get the archive up quickly, there is no guarantee as to the timing for this to occur. For this reason, many teams (as Greg has previously mentioned) will choose to record the broadcast off NASA-TV or the NASA-TV website.

We receive the broadcasts directly from the satellite and record them on two devices: a VHS recorder and also onto a Mini-DV camera. This provides instant playback during discussion of the game, so that we don't "interpret" what was said and begin making false assumptions. It is quite common to playback the game description 4 to 5 times to capture ONLY those words used to describe it. After we have filtered out our assumptions, and identified the basic facts of the game, we are more open to begin thinking about and brainstorming for it.

I was trying to do this with a tester today, but I can't seem to get it to work. It will start but then come up with a failing message.

Re: 2007 Kickoff Webcast Archive

I had the same problem with SDP being unable to parse http locations or something like that, but by looking up the video properties while streaming through VLC media player I found the url to be this
Manually entering this URL seemed to do the trick for me.

Re: 2007 Kickoff Webcast Archive

NASA Ames is archiving the webcast. I would expect to see it on www.robotics.nasa.gov perhaps an hour after kickoff ends (it could be earlier).
