What kind of robots are you Building??
How many of you can climb a ramp on a robot (30 or less degrees of elevation).
How many of you have a ramp (30 or less degrees of elevation). How many of you have a crane for picking up other robots. How many of you have a bar for cranes to hook onto. How many of you have forklifts? Hopefully the responses to this thread will determine whether the points gained at the end are worth the effort. Also this should help us decide what kind of robot to build to interface best with others. |

I would suggest adding a poll to your post so its easy to see the results.

Re: What kind of robots are you Building??
This thread is a little early to get the kind of answers you are seeking. Alot of teams are still digesting the game to even know what direction they are wanting to go and alot of teams are just not going to share info about what they are doing til weeks later and maybe not until competition season (like team 71 who everybody wants to know what they are doing and they find out when it's too late to do something about it. 4 killer apps and counting!)
Keep reading the pages over the next few weeks and slowly but surely the answers you seek will come but I don't think this thread is going to accomplish what you were really looking for, I'm afraid. |

Re: What kind of robots are you Building??
I agree with Ed. My team isn't even done with strategy for the game. We don't start designing until at least tomorrow.

Re: What kind of robots are you Building??
Today we agreed to have a fast, maneuverable robot, probably with a mecanum style drive system, and be able to score anywhere on The Rack.
We might be able to climb a ramp if it is shallow enough. I remember watching a robot with a mecanum drive climb up onto the ramp last year... soo... |

Re: What kind of robots are you Building??
Here's what we plan on having, but it's not final.
Can you climb a ramp (30 or less degrees of elevation)? Yes Will you have a ramp (30 or less degrees of elevation)? Yes, maybe 2 Will you have a crane? No Will you have a bar for a crane to hook into? Never considered it. Possibly. Will you have a forklift? Possible replacement of a ramp if ramp dosen't seem to work. |

Re: What kind of robots are you Building??
How would keep the ramp on your robot? Is it possible to have a huge detachable ramp that you can put down and allow your whole team go on?

Re: What kind of robots are you Building??
Yesterday our team had a major brainstorm where we dialed in the basics of our design, so I (the head of design), can get the bot modeled in CAD to meet our deadline of Wednesday....some parts will be CNC'ed so we need to get our order in.
We discussed the possiblilty of a ramp to allow other bots to drive up on top of us. However, I think that I am going to scratch that in the design because of the fact that it would need to retract until the end of the game. The manipulator will be based of a forklift, with our main strategy being offense. |

Re: What kind of robots are you Building??
This is allowed as long as the ramp stays attached to your robot, and you do not deploy it outside of the home area (no wedges are allowed).

Re: What kind of robots are you Building??
For the robots this year, is speed more important than percision? Is it recommended to change speeds during the match for percision? How many speeds is recommended?

Re: What kind of robots are you Building??
Well, it depends on your mechanism for scoring rings. I think that speed is pretty important in this game, but if your arm does not have much mobility on its own than being able to move your whole robot accurately will be more important. Also remember that there is a trade off between speed and torque, so a really fast robot won't be as effective at pushing other robots for defense. Most teams that use more than one speed use two.
