A low side may actually be preferable for lifting (assuming the lift can still fit beneath it). The higher the side, the higher the lift has to travel (and the greater amount of its maximum range) before it contact and begins to lift the actual robot.
For example. If a lift is designed to go 5" high, but the bottom of the robot's frame is 3" high, the bottom of the robot's wheels will only be 2" high when the lift is fully raised.
