TEAM 401: Scoring Arm Prototype - Point of View

Team 401 is proud to present a video of today's session.
We tested our tourus grabber design and made a video from the "Point of View" of the arm.

This is only prototype version therefore there is alot of sway and give in the design currently. Future versions will be much cleaner.

More details of the device to come in the future!

Enjoy and good luck building!

Wow, you already have a manipulator prototype? We have some mock-ups made, but our manipulator isn't functional yet. Or did you cheat and use old robot parts?

Cool video! I wish GM let us bring cameras on-site...

Very nice gabe, looks really really cool from what I've seen. Can't wait to see the final, polished version!

Very nice, we have a crude press-fit minapulator prototype. It's only made of plastic, some scrap metal, and some otehr things but ti works very nicely.

Was that arm on your 2005 Triple Play bot (thus the video title "copperhead reloaded")?

Im glad to see that this design seeems to work fairly well. My team devised a design somewhat similar to yours. So atleast we know its not a failure. Good job.

I dunno, really.

Sorry about the camera shake in the video. My driving is a bit rusty. That, and our button masher was a rookie who's never driven before.

It appears that currently their manipulator is fitted onto their turreted 4-bar linkage from their 2005 bot.

Re: TEAM 401: Scoring Arm Prototype - Point of View

The video was a test of **one** of our 2007 arm prototypes. We are still in b/w about 3 or 4 designs, so you might be seeing more of these type of videos.

You are all correct, that was the 2005 bot. Unfortunately, the manipulatr was not very visible in that video. Once we have a more final choice, I'll be sure to get a pic or two up on CD.

(by the way, good observation on the 2005 bot!)

Good luck building!

Re: TEAM 401: Scoring Arm Prototype - Point of View

It sounds like your using a suction cup to lift the ringer, or it could be maybe just a arm that pulls underneath, what exactly did you use to pick up game pieces? Very nice though, especially in one week.

That sounds more like the drill motors that drive the unit than any actuall pnumatics used for suction, but hey, what do I know.

Re: TEAM 401: Scoring Arm Prototype - Point of View

There was a lot of noise in the shop, especially saws and such. That, and our motors were loud as crap.

Re: TEAM 401: Scoring Arm Prototype - Point of View

The device used to pick up the tubes was not actuated at all, actually.

It was not just a hook or just a twig taped on the end.

There was alot of engineering analysis of the tubes and forces/moments acting on them to design the gripper design.

Guess for now, but I am working on a quick white paper that will show how and why the concept works!

Nice video-

Care to show us what the side view and front view of the gripper looks like?
