Thumbs up Re: Treads Or Wheels

Yeah, a half-track might be a good idea, especially if the front wheels are omni-wheels.

Wheels. We're sticking to a similar design we've used the past few years which has worked out well for us. This will allow us to concentrate on other areas of the robot.

Re: Treads Or Wheels

"The Mighty Auk" was actually a full tank tread drive system with a piston that would go down when it would turn, so it could turn on a dime. It was a very cool drive system.

Sorry, my bad. I must have been thinking of another short tread unit from about that time frame.

Yes, the Mighty Auk was an impressive machine. But the ball drive was just plain cool.

I believe in intuition and inspiration. Imagination is more important than knowledge. For knowledge is limited, whereas imagination embraces the entire world, stimulating progress, giving birth to evolution. It is, strictly speaking, a real factor in scientific research.

Re: Treads Or Wheels

Treads are too slowturning, however, it could be useful in this years game where fine-tuning your position could be crucial.

We are going with standard 4WD w/ the AndyMark KOP wheels. They're really nice this gear, grippy, strong, light, durable, and sprockets mount easy. Why not use them? We are going to make the drive system relatively simple this year, to allow us to focus on our custom chassis and other parts that will be relatively complex...
