Re: Who likes this years challenge?

I don't know i find this game to be alot about strategy but that doesn't mean the robots have to be simple there could be some very complicated desgins out there because as everyone knows ther are going to be teams ou there who will be trying to score and raise two bots and i would really like to see some of those bots because there is no doubt in my mind that those bots will look amazing

Re: Who likes this years challenge?

I'm in a rookie team and we watched the vids from last years competition. I thought, "Oh, shooting balls into a hoop. Pretty simple." Then they unveiled this year's and I thought "Holy crap!!!"
I commend NASA for their ingenuity...and sense of humor.

I also can't wait to see some of the designs for getting these 'bots off the floor. Thing is you can't really plan how well you can do it 'cuz you don't who's on you're alliance unitil after it's finished. I have a feeling these 'bots will have to be very adaptable to the situation.

Re: Who likes this years challenge?

I didn't like the game at kickoff. But, it is slowly getting better, the game has more strategy to it. And we really won't know how the game really is until we get to the competition. Like in 2005 when we thought that the strategy would be to cap the highest, but it was really how fast you could cap. In less than 2 months we will find out, hopefully this game will get better. I also don't think it will be an easy game for spectators to understand. Last year was exiting to watch, and it was entertaining, this year i feel won't be as good, but i could be wrong.

I agree here. There a lot more to this game than meets the eye and I think there's even more potential in regards to the 'fun factor'. Anything can happen...

Besides, strategy has a lot to do with collaboration and teamwork and isn't that a huge aspect of engineering?

Re: Who likes this years challenge?

It gives more of a chance to other teams yeah by your shooting balls last year with 3 or more this year your only are alould to pick up 1 ringer and score it. The key is to how fast your going to score it!

Re: Who likes this years challenge?

Out of the years that I've been affiliated with Team 1279(which is the past 3 years.) This is the worst out of all of them but it is still a pretty good game. My favorite is still the tetra game but I ain't complaining about this one.

Re: Who likes this years challenge?

You HAD to discover the poll function didn't you lol

I think everyone should spend more time building the robots than expressing our thoughts about everything else.

Fun or no fun, we won't find out until the competitions start, I like a good challenge, and there's more to it than just simple this year

Re: Who likes this years challenge?

I think this year's game has the potential to be pretty interesting. I always find the methods for game piece manipulation to be the most interesting feature of a year's robots. This year with ringers looks to be interesting, especially since we're provided with the vacuum (though my team judged that to be impractical).

Earlier a comment was made about there being two types of bots: scorers and scorer pushers; and furthermore made it sound like this was a new thing. Pardon me, but that's the exact definition of many many matches I saw last year.

Re: Who likes this years challenge?

Although I am not officially on a FIRST team anymore, I like this game a lot since it keeps it simple. With the huge influx of new teams these past couple years, a game like this is good for getting them into the true mix of FIRST.

Re: Who likes this years challenge?

This year's game is okay as far as fun factor and excitement but nothing close to last year's game which was my personal favorite. I predict that there will be fewer sucessful robots than last year.

To me, this year's game seems too similar to Triple Play.

It also features the hardest (except tripple play) autonomous yet. It is arguably also one of the most useless.

Re: Who likes this years challenge?

Every year they put in some element that makes scoring a little tricky... some detail which makes an otherwise simple task more challenging. This year, I feel they have too many little things like that. the swinging rack, which rotates, and has little 'stingers' on each arm to make it more difficult to put the tubes on... it's just too much for me. It seems like there is so much making it hard to score usin the tubes, and so little making it hard to score with ramps. normally the game designers make the most challenging task the most rewarding, but I don't see that so much this year.

Re: Who likes this years challenge?

I like to look at a couple of different perspectives when the game challenge is presented.
One that I look at is the team's reaction. Enthusiasm, discussion, different views presented by new members as well as veterans and mentors. This year, we've had a great deal of all of this in a healthy productive way.

Another perspective that I look at is this - if everyone is happy and humming right along without questions or discussions - then I get a little nervous. The game challenge is just that, a challenge, and can be approached from many different angles, many different ways. It is going to be a lot of fun to see what all of the teams come up with this year.
