You have a very nice work space. I wish we had something that large. The video turned out very nice.

Re: American Robot Season 2 Episode 1!

it was great, I love how many FIRST related series there are popping up. FIRSTcast, nerd vision, The Blue Alliance(w00t ) and now this.

BTW, what video editing software are you using? FCP? the titles in the beginning looked very nice. livetype? or dare a say Motion?

i <3 motion

the time lapses are also a nice touch. I made a few last year and more are on the way!

Re: American Robot Season 2 Episode 1!

That's really awesome guys! I'm glad to see more people publishing video content about FIRST and their teams. Getting to see week-by-week how your team progresses will be a lot of fun, and might help give newer teams some insight to the FIRST build process.

I would recommend you guys use external microphones. Even computer microphones, held by the person on camera will improve the audio quality and make them sound clearer. Do some test shoots perhaps and see how it works out.

Really great work!

yes i agree, external mics are really nice to have and can be done rather inexpensively. for example the mics used for the blue alliance kickoff were xlr mics that I had because i am a musician. once run through the correct adapters you can get a very nice quality sound. so if you know anybody who is a musician
ask if you can barrow theirs or buy some they come in many differnt prices and many are not very expensive.

for anyone who's curios the mics used for TBA kickoff event were: a shure SM57 and an AKG D88 S they cost about $100 and $40 respectively.

Actually, American Robot was an inspiring force for the first episodes of FIRSTcast, as they came first and really pioneered FIRST-based shows.

Once again, American Robot gives a great showing, with an awesome episode, highlighting what the RhodeWarriors are up to this season.

Thanks for the kind words everyone. We threw the idea around back in late '04 within the URI Robotics Club. I think it was the first web show that had to deal with FIRST. I never thought it would get as popular as it did. But college kicked in, my wisdom teeth came out, and we realized that a robot had to built. So the season ended short. That year I was the primary creator of each episode. Now I have a team of people that are helping to make this happen.

PS: High res is still having problems. Should have it up tomorrow.

Re: American Robot Season 2 Episode 1!

Thanks guys for all the comments! It certainly takes a lot of hard work and effort to produce these weekly episodes. We're certainly excited in sharing our ideas and methodology; turns out that the first season of American Robot was the inspiration behind several robot designs back in 2005. Hopefully the episodes from this year are just as inspirational!

*** as a hint, you may want to pay attention to all of the songs we use in this and future episodes...they're all connected in a certain way...

Very cool video.

What was that clip that you showed briefly (playing on a TV)? Was that a former FIRST challenge?

That was from 1997, the other year FIRST used inner tubes

Ah, okay, thanks.

I knew that they had used tubes before, but I didn't know what the game actually looked like.
Do you have a digitized version of the video that you could post? It would be great to see!

Thanks.
