Inventor problems
Hey! I keep getting this error:
Missing or invalid axis for defining the sketch coordinate system. Use Edit Sketch Coordinates to define the sketch. Does anyone know how to fix it? I dont know how to get to the edit sketch coordinates.. It's giving me a lot of problems & doesnt let me put constraints. Another problem that I'm having is that I can't use the iparts from http://www.cbliss.com/inventor/Parts/index.htm I got exactly the parts that I need but they wont work. It says that some parts might have to be modified to work in R5 & I don't know what that means. I just started using inventor last week |

Re: Inventor problems
I have never heard of this problem. Is this happening right from the initial sketch when you start a new .ipt ? If you can give a little more details maybe I can try recreating the situation and help you correct it. btw, I tried using a few files from that site you gave with no problem

Re: Inventor problems
With the invalid axis problem can you zip and post the file at http://www.mcadforms.com or http://discussion.autodesk.com in the Inventor forum.
For the cbliss parts you do realize that you have to pull down the red EOP (End of Part) marker in the browser? Last edited by JD Mather : 17-01-2007 at 19:14. |

Perhaps more context would be good. What are you attempting to do when you get the error? What did you do when it first started showing up? |

Re: Inventor problems
I was able to fix the first problem. I used the heal tool to fix it.
But I am not able to open the files I need. I'm using Inventor 11. So I think that I should be able to open Inventor 6 files? |

Re: Inventor problems
I got the file to work. I downloaded bevel gears but when I moved the end part down, the gear got really big. Is there any way to scale in Inventor? I want to make it smaller

If you want to see what makes an iPart tick, you can right-click the Table at the top of the Model Browser and edit it. There are some good tutorials on iParts around - I like Sean Dotson's stuff. |

Near the top of the browser there is something like Imported and probably a + symbol. Click on the + to expand. Then you will probably see something like an Excel spreadsheet icon. Right click on that and select table. or There will be a list of different "configurations" double click on any one to make it active. or Do place component in an assembly file and pick the gear file and it should come up with a list of teeth number, pitch or something like that. or Start a new part file and exit sketch. Select Derived Component and the gear file. Checkmark Scale and put in your scale factor. I strongly suggest NOT using this method though as you are changing the proper geometry for that gear. or While in your assembly click on the down arrow next to the words Assembly Panel and select Design Accelerator and then Gears. Enter your gear specs and Inventor will build one for you. or Come back here and let me know if you would like a step-by-step procedure to create your own gear from scratch and I'll see if I can find the document. Try one of the other options first. |

The derived component tool worked perfectly! Thanks a lot!
