Re: Which wheels will you use for your robot this year?

The kit wheels this year are great I'm sure alot of team will use those.

We are looking at the colsin(sp?) and IFI wheels both are excellent.

using andymark mecanum wheel set. we were considering using the kit wheels, but we phased out of that once we saw a couple clips of what these babies could really do.

Re: Which wheels will you use for your robot this year?

Although they have rather fallen out of style in the FIRST community, our team will be using pneumatic Skyways.

They are light, easy to assemble, and easy to attach sprockets to. They also "squish", giving them superior contact with the floor and greater traction.

I believe they are only available from Skyway upon special request, and are not in any catalog.

Re: Which wheels will you use for your robot this year?

I can't believe only one other team has posted saying they are going with the AM Mecanums... I think the demand for them really caught AndyMark off guard.

We're going with them, I know of two other teams who are, too. I'm looking forward to seeing the robot roll sideways.

Jason

P.S. I think my favorite set of wheels that I have seen so far were about 8" diameter, cut from two sheets of 3/4" plywood with a few "speed holes" drilled in with a hole saw, a strip of tread screwed around them, mounted on press-fit bearings and driven with a sprocket. Lightweight, grippy, easy and cheap. Wish I'd thought of it.

Re: Which wheels will you use for your robot this year?

Let's just say in the past few days I have either worked with or ordered 3 types of wheels, 2 different treads, 2 different wheel diameters, pulleys, sprockets, two different transmissions, chains, belts, delrin, and 3 different styles of bearings.

Yes we are coming to Waterloo this year. We really enjoy the venue and the level of competition.

As Jacob said, we will have more pushing power this year than last and won't be as easy to turn, both because of programming and because of a kind of sweet drivetrain setup. 4 - 6" dia by 1.5" wide and 2 - 6" dia by 2" wide wheels. The wheel design should be really similiar to that of the new Chevy/GMC pickup and SUV wheels. Of course the 20" version, just scaled of course. Couldn't get them to go with the 22" version of the Escalade. Should be able to post pics of them by Tuesday.
