Re: What do you do on your team?

We are a small, student ran and operated team. We only have two "teacher sponsors", who aren't engineers or anything, just a Physics and a Biology teacher, interested in FIRST and robotics in general. Over the years we've had engineer mentors from places such as Lockheed and Drexel U, but general the robot is 95% designed and built by us.

I am the head "engineer", I guess you could say. I design pretty much the whole bot in CAD (after an extensive team input of design and strategy), then I'll start making parts myself and have some other people do it too. This year I took on the chassis and half the manipulator, so it's my responsibility to make sure those are modeled, parts are ordered, and the thing gets built properly. My "partners" will be helping be, as well as building other parts of the robot.

Also when all of my building is done, I will be doing the robot electronics with another person.

And when the whole thing is done, I'm the head driver.

Mentor, with an electrical, mechanical, and pnuematics background. I will move around and help out where needed. I don't know/do programming though.

I've always been a mentor. Team 237 didn't exist until after I graduated.

I don't design, but I help out with Spirit & misc tasks that are mundane to the engineering elite. From helping spirit to keep the everything on track, to planning & provide physical labor for our unique Scrimmage at the end of the 6-week build time. I thrive on what others think is fodder. This year is no exception for Aces High #176 in planning the annual Scrimmage to "test" robots & fields alike. We want to make this years' scrimmage better than ever!

Nope. End effector: the device on the end of the robot's arm (or lift) that allows the robot to do what you want, such as pick up a tube. Also called a manipulator.

Re: What do you do on your team?

I try to apply my knowledge as much as possible on my team, and my strengths happen to be in areas that no one else is interested in, such as writing Chairman's and organizational stuff. Our project management turnaround is working out pretty well this year, and everyone appreciates the new organizational techniques. I also try to do a bit of everything except software, which is completely foreign to me....but I'll try to learn eventually.

Some people say subs, some say grinders. Some say bubblers, other say water fountains.

On this list, there is nothing about communications or promotions. Although I do some designing and prototyping, that is mainly my job, fundraising. My job has varied over the years, but in general, I've done communication/spirt type stuff.

Re: What do you do on your team?

There really needs to be an all of the above category, because I wrote the letters to send out to potential sponsors, my team is using my lift design, i'm designing and building the chassis/drivetrain, babysitting the immature underclassmen that can't work out their differences, learning C, sometimes helping with the field, and sometimes helping with whatever else needs help.

Re: What do you do on your team?

The problem with having an "all of the above" catagory is that a lot of people would click on that. I would like to think that every person on your team is involved (at least in SOME aspect) with every part of the FIRST season. I'm pretty sure that everyone has at least helped SOME with everything.

Re: What do you do on your team?

I'm officially the leader of the endefficator team, even though I'm a rookie. Somehow, it worked out so that the entire endefficator team is rookies, and I got voted leader. I've been working a little bit on everything though, since about half of our already small team is going to be leaving next year, leaving only one person with more than this year's experience
