My guess on the black material is powder coated metal for your ramp. Either that or you guys got a new cart.

Kudos on the Shmexy parts, as always.

Travis, I do enjoy the shiny factor all your parts have every year but when are you going to get some hard anodizing done? Black is the new Chrome....

Have you seen the rest of 968's robots? Some of the most beautiful robots ever.

You're making transmission plates from delrin? Y'all have money to burn.

We've made liberal use of delrin in the past because the lab we work in uses it often for prototyping mechanical systems in small devices -- but we've never had to pay for it.

Delrin is $2 cheaper than aluminum for a 12" square piece.

Hah! No, we are strapped for cash like most teams... the delrin is only costing us $20 a robot from mcmaster. It's not that expensive. The same sized piece of 6061 aluminum costs $21. We are saving money!

As far as the 7075 and 7068 go, we are doing some sort of surface treatment. Which one has yet to be determined. Hard anodizing wouldn't work for us though, as it would add thickness to the gear teeth... no fun. As I mentioned earlier, 7068 is already some pretty hard stuff, so we'll see.

Ah -- we get 24x48" sheets of 1/2" thick delrin a lot of the time. That can become absurdly expensive. We like it because we can laser cut it quickly and precisely, so it's a good way of making intricate, moving parts. I don't think I'd have ever considered using it for a transmission plate, though, so I'm really interested in seeing how it works for you.
