Go to Post By the looks, 1114 has already figured out both #1 and #2. They're still behind 71, who is just about done with their robot for the 2012 season, is getting driver practice for 2011, and is working on their robot designs for the 2013 water game. You're still way behind. - EricH [more]

How the GTS works?

I am trying to understand how the GTS/Accelometer works. If the GTS has counted one tick what distance came through, or who much degrees is one tick?

Thanks.

The GTS is a Hall Effect gear tooth sensor. It senses "ticks" when a gear tooth passes near to the sensor. The size of the gear onto which the sensor is mounted, the gear ratio between that gear and the wheel and the diameter of the wheel are all specific to your design.

As to angle: If you have mounted the GTS next to a 60 tooth gear, the angular resolution is 6 degrees per tick.

Regards,

Mike

Re: How the GTS works?

Ok, thank you very much.
Just another question, you mentioned that the gear tooth is to be moutned on the GTS. Were we supposed to recieve the gear tooth in the Kit of Parts? and if not, were can I get it?
Further more, how do I place the gear tooth on the GTS?

Re: How the GTS works?

You should have gotten two sensors in your KoP. To mount the GTS, use nylon screws to mount it close (don't quote me on a distance) to the gear. We drilled holes in our AndyMark Transmissions to mount the GTS.

Yes we got 2 sencors... why do we need both?

And where do we find the Gear Tooth and where should we place it? =/

Re: How the GTS works?

You would use two gear tooth sensors if you wanted to sense and control the speed of two different gears. Think of the left and right side of the robot, for example.

You will find gear teeth at the periphery of any gear. You know the little pointy-shaped metal things that jut out from the gear and mesh with each other when two gears are placed together? Those are called teeth. That's what the gear tooth sensor senses.

Using two helps track your robot in a straight path because if one side spins faster than the other, the GTS will be off and you can make them correct the amount of gears to be equal by adjusting motor speed.
