Drifting

As you can see from my name, I like drifting, I wanted to know who else here likes it, and if so, who are your favourite drivers?

Formula D=Chris Forsberg and the rest of DA
D1GP=Gen Terasaki(FastRat AP1(S2000)) and Ueo Katsihiro (Garage SIFT AE86)

Feel free to talk about anything drifting here.

ummmmmm..... most of the time you dont want to break the front wheels loose for drifitng. unless ur REALLY good or have awdish. you wanna over steer. not understeer. not to mention an intrepid front end may be heavy but a viper front end is prolly a bit more heavier.
i have a feeling this will bring a lot more arguement but you cant truely drift a ff car. yes you can have fun sliding in one tho.

Thumbs up Re: Drifting

Drifting is insane

Rhys Millen definitely has to be my favorite. His GTO is insane at fishtailing!

when i first saw the Formula D competition on Spike TV I couldnt believe my eyes.

hah the best is the American cars pwn the Japanese cars every time...and the sport started in Japan! ROFL!

Re: Drifting

That's because the American xars are all torque, and that Rhys Millen cheats technically, his car's slip angle is greater than the steering angle, if you see pictures of the car, theres some plexiglass air catchers, which allow the car to go furthur without spinning, pretty lame to me

*Note plexiglass sheets connecting roofline to rear wing.*

Re: Drifting

meh. or you can say that the "sport" began in japan as a means of "spirited driving" in the mountains. and then americans found out about it and started the D1 and stuff.

i dont think the vertical supports are cheating at all tho. didnt know about them till you mentioned but the spoiler helps keep the rear wheels on the ground in most racing cirlces. is that cheating?

Re: Drifting

D1 was actually started in 2001 in Japan. Option video had the first ever drift compitition in 1989, their 'Ikaten' comps. Most of todays D1 drivers came from those Ikaten comps.

And no, a spoiler is not cheating, however, I think the vertical polycarb inserts are. For one reason only, that it allows the slip angle of the car to be extended, therefore he can slide further before he spins out. I dont think you should have those, just increase steering angle. Ueo Katsuhiro in japan has a massive 74 degrees of steering angle in his Hachi-Roku (1984-1987 Toyota Corolla GTS in America)

He can get more angle than in that picture, thats about 65 degrees.

As for AutoX, I think that it's really cool, It allows the Lower powered cars to finally shine against some huge monster hp car.

Re: Drifting

I've done both. Well.. kinda.

I've raced Autocross one time just for kicks at an officially sanctioned event at my college run by FCSCC. The catch; I raced an electric car (Solectra Force - Basically a electric powered Geo Metro.) and wasn't PAX'ed right so I lost the heat. Should of technically been in my own class but whatever. It was a fun time.

As far as drifting goes, front wheel drive kinda dissallows a lot of that, and the best drifting done with front wheel drift really isn't considered drifting, but is done in the snow. Last week was good for that.

But I did "drift" down 95 South in Enfield on my way back from the River Rage competititon in New Hampshire this year with some friends in the car when my rear drivers side wheel wheel bearing locked up on me. I pulled over with smoke coming out from the back of my car, and thought it was just a flat tire.. and seeing no tires flat, started to try and drive again. The wheel was locked up, and a quick backup and forward move unlocked it and I drove it off the exit, flat top tire and all and changed the tire.
$500+ later fixed the root of that problem.

This is the result of that:

That was kinda scary.

Planned drifting = Fun!
Unplanned drifting = Scary!

Re: Drifting

You guys are too fanboy, you probably think the Skyline GT-R is the greatest car in the world, or a Supra. The only really cool drift cars out there right now are the twin GC8's of Team Orange, or the LS1 powered RX7.
