Andymark single speed and KOP chassis

Greetings from team 1660(Harlem Knights).

We are looking for ways to mount the single speed gearbox from andymark on our KOP chassis. If anyone has any suggestions and or pictures it would be greatly appreciated.

-1660!!!

Re: Andymark single speed and KOP chassis

Your best bet would be to drill holes into the gear box to use to bolt to the chasis. Unless you can use longer bolts than the ones supplied, and bolt the gear box directly to a support bar.

Re: Andymark single speed and KOP chassis

Alternatively, you may do well to get a sturdy piece of aluminum angle, bolt the gearbox on its face to that, then bolt the angle to your frame. Sort of like the 2005-2006 setup, but different.

Re: Andymark single speed and KOP chassis

what 996 is planning to do is machine our own metal plates, bolt the gearboxes onto those, and then bolt the plate/gearbox combination to the kop frame with a possibility of using an angled piece of aluminum to secure two gearboxes across the frame. probably doesn't make much sense... but maybe it helped

Re: Andymark single speed and KOP chassis

I suggest that you look at what Team 121 is doing with their kit frame and AM single speed transmissions. In fact, they can probably answer any questions you have about mounting, lubrication, and break-in of these transmissions. You can find many of their pictures here.

Good Luck,

BEN

Re: Andymark single speed and KOP chassis

We used a piece of aluminum flat stock with two hole patterns drilled out: one for the kit chassis on the bottom and one for the AM transmissions on top. You should be able to see an example here (it's the third image on the page if it doesn't link you directly). We are actually in the process of making some new plates that have slots where we mount to the chassis so we slide the transmissions back and forth for chain tensioning. You will probably also want to design a stiffener plate that spans the width of the chassis and bolts in some fashion to the holes at the tops of the AM transmissions. We made ours out of sheetmetal with the edges turned up for extra strength. In addition, it helps stiffen the chassis and prevents twisting and racking (much like the kitbot stiffener plate that came with the kit the last two years). This plate was installed at last night's meeting (which I didn't attend), but there should be pictures up on Joe Menassa's website soon. Good luck.

-Tom
