Exclamation 2005 Robot Controller?

Here we go,
So yesterday we were test driving the robot and I made the electronics a little too close to the out side edge so the radio, tether, and prog connections were facing the outside left side of the robot so when you connected the cable it would stick out like a 1/4 inch, so we were driving the robot and the cable hit a little ground electrical box and snapped the the radio input of the robot controller. Now I wanted to know since this happened late last night can we use the 2005 controller for the camera and can we use it during competion time. I checked the rules and cant find it. In conclusion I going to call if today and see if they can fix it!

Thanks,
Marko

Re: 2005 Robot Controller?

The 2005 and 2007 Robot Controllers have different processors. You can't just swap one for the other without choosing the appropriate library files and recompiling the code.

Quote:
<R27> Motors, pumps, and, Robot Controllers from previous robots can not be used in addition to those provided in the 2007 Kit Of Parts. They may be used as direct one-to-one SPARE PARTS for those provided if the provided part fails or is damaged. They can only be used if they are identical to the part being replaced.
I believe a 2006 (or an upgraded 2005) Robot Controller should be considered identical to a 2007 Robot Controller, but I haven't seen anything in the Q&A to confirm that.

Re: 2005 Robot Controller?

Yeah I reprogrammed the 2005 controller and it interfaces properly with all 2007 operator and radios, everything works. Will i be able to use the 2007 camera on this system temporarilly until i get the new one fixed?

Re: 2005 Robot Controller?

You can use the 2007 camera on the 2005 RC. I'm not sure I saw any difference except for the power switch. But its hardware is identical.

Re: 2005 Robot Controller?

We busted up our 2005 controller at the GTR doing something similar... the tether cable got yanked while we were driving under tether control and pulled the tether connector off the circuit board.

With help from an IFI rep we were able to open the RC case and solder the connector back into place. It has worked fine since.

Hopefully your damage is repairable, if not by your team, then by IFI.

Re: 2005 Robot Controller?

For testing, you can make the 2005 work while the new one is being fixed.

You can't compete with it though.

Re: 2005 Robot Controller?

A word of caution: thumbscrews are your enemy.

Never ever ever do the thumbscrews on your Tether port ever. You'll run out of cable and break something on the OI or the RC end.

While doing the thumbscrews to attach the Competition Port to your OI is a good idea while competing, be sure to undo them before walking away with your controls! I've had a few close calls...

Only one competition controller (RC), which is what is being talked about here. For speed controllers (which are different), I believe it's one per motor on most motors.
