bumper weight

Hi, we're trying to calculate weight for lifter design. It occured to us that FIRST allows bumpers in addition to the standard weight of the robot. So do all your robots have bumpers and if so How much do they weigh?

Re: bumper weight

Ours are 13.76 lbs but just to be safe do the calculations with the bumpers at 15 lbs.

Don't forget that the 13 pound battery is also in addition to the robot weight limit.

Re: bumper weight

Battery + bumpers = up to around 150. If you can deal with 150 pounds, you should be fine. (Translation--find your biggest mentor and put him on the lifter. If it can lift him, you should be fine.)

thats good but it may be safer to get weights and put them on (go for 160 lbs. it is a lot easier to set up the weight.)

I dunno -- some teams have extra large mentors.

I outweigh my team's robot by almost 100 lb. And there are mentors out there who make me look puny by comparison.

See? if your robot lifts you, it can lift another robot just fine (assuming that there's anything left of the lifting mechanism).

Chippermonky,

At my first job 37 years ago, they had a monkey named Chipper He was a South American wooley monkey. Customers who got their fingers or hair too close to the cage soon regretted their mistake. A 16 pound monkey is incredibly strong.

We have a couple mentors that weigh more than two robots.
