Re: pic: 2104

Wow. That seems pretty beefy. That will be one powerful robot. Will it have some sort of appendage? I can't see any type of possible mount for anything. And with that extrememly heavy drive system, there doesn't seem to be much room for other systems. Even without any sort of manipulator or lift, this will still be a formidable robot, I think. Kudos to rookie team 2104.

We figured we didn't have the experience/expertise to build a manipulator, so the focus is on being a powerful pusher with a ramp for 2 robots. We have a 3-panel ramp of aluminum honeycomb that we are trying to figure out how to deploy. Our first design with spring-loaded hinges controlled by bungees - that was too explosive and tore itself apart after a few times. Plan B is to have a motor/roller on the first panel that pulls the others out.

Amazing. My team, also rookies, had thought of doing treads and ramps, but they decided to shoot for the moon and the top spider.

Re: pic: 2104

Looks AWESOME guys. Having a ridiculously strong drive train will make you competitive no matter what, and having 2 ramps to climb up on...perfect. Great work guys. If were ever in a match together I hope its as an alliance, or else we are running away from that beast.

Re: pic: 2104

How did you put your numbers on your bumper?

To our dismay this year, the GDC ruled that applique'd numbers (or other items) make it a non-standard bumper. Painting or dying are OK. Go figger.

No, they updated it to say that if embroidery leaves the bumpers tough and smooth, it is legal. We too were dismayed after our original question was answered. However, we reasked specifically about embroidery, and were given more clarification. The thread we used last year held out better than the cloth on the bumper.

Re: pic: 2104

We did the numbers by creating a paper stencil, marking the outlines with a pencil, then coloring with a white, non-smearing grease pencil.

Yes, I saw that embroidery was allowed. 1188 had embroidery last year, but the mom that did it is no longer with the team so we were considering a sewed-on applique. That's not allowed.

2104's numbers don't look embroidered, either. I wouldn't want them to get a rude surprise in inspection. Especially since their team number is the same as my house address.
