Go to Post It's a good things we're engineers who regularly squeeze out 'miracles' with a severely limited budget, eh? I think that's an important aspect that we as mentors need to show the students from time to time, and this year is a perfect opportunity. - JesseK [more]

Re: pic: 1683 robot 2

No videos yet. Hopefully I can get some this weekend at our scrimmage. The arm is a three part lift that extends up about 9.5 ft. It basically uses one continuous chain to lift it. The gripper moves on the lift and closes to pick up tubes.

holy crickey...does that fold out more then twice? that would be so cool, you would'nt even have to leave the home zone.

Re: pic: 1683 robot 2

I doesn't fold out at all, it telescopes vertically in three stages and the gripper folds out. It would be pretty crazy if it folded out in that many stages (and pretty illegal).

Re: pic: 1683 robot 2

yeah there's some pretty strict limitations on how far out you can reach during the game (too bad, it would be awesome to play from the home zone ) ... that arm looks pretty sweet and really compact for the length

Re: pic: 1683 robot 2

i will give you guys some advice
our team was looking at this design earlier, i actually built it
from the look of it, your telescoping will take a while, since the string has to go through all of those pulleys
it will be 2-3 times faster if you put pulleys at the top, bolt a string to the top of the one behind it, and to the bottom of the one in front of it
that way, the robot will only have to pull in about 40 inches of string or whatever that is, instead of about 120 from what i can see

been hiding their talents up to that point, and finally decided to really show their capabilities. And when they did, was it ever impressive!
