As I recall, that was exactly the way it was done in Atlanta last year (disable, autonomous, disable until all-clear, humans, disable).

Actually, it's a little different from some past years. Last year there was a brief pause after autonomous to make sure everything was counted right. In 2004 (definitely) and 2005 (maybe), there was no pause... as soon as autonomous ended, you could step forward and start moving the sticks. It's a valid question, even for non-rookies. It's also a very important question if you're using a software feedback loop, to make sure that your robot doesn't go nuts as soon as operator mode starts. See this thread for why it's important:
