Re: Rookie in the Chairman's

As a rookie team, I'm pretty sure that you cannot win the Chairmans, however, I think that you can still submit it on firstawards.org or com or whichever it is (I'll look it up and edit). Basically, follow the same guidelines as are outlined in the awards section. Go through the list, and try to think of things that your team has done to fit each criteria. If you can't think of anything for a criteria, that's ok! That section will be one to work on improving for next year. And that's a big thing in Chairmans, constant improvement.

Best of luck!

That's correct. Rookies cannot win the Chairman's Award, but it is recommended that you submit a Chairman's Award submission (executive summary, essay, four photos) anyway, because it can help you win the Rookie All-Star Award. If you do this, I suggest printing out copies of the essay submission and executive summary to hand to judges at the competition in case they haven't read it.

Even if you submit an essay, you won't have an interview like other teams competing for the Chairman's.

The website is http://www.firstawards.org/ . This is the same website that is used to submit the URL for the website award, and the Woodie Flowers Award. If someone on your team already set up an account, you'll have to get the login info from them or ask them to submit.

Make sure you submit everything ahead of time. The website closes immediately at the minute it is due. It usually gets very slow the night of the due date because so many teams are accessing it at the same time, so submit it earlier in the day.

At the competition, just show gracious professionalism, and have someone in the pits ready to talk to judges and tell them about your first year in FIRST Robotics.

Good luck!

If you have any other questions, feel free to email me at z@dawgma.org. We competed in our rookie year last year, and won the Rookie All-Star Award at the Philadelphia Regional.

Section 5.4.2.
Print out copies to hand to the judges in the pit. Judges will not see your submission online.

Re: Rookie in the Chairman's

Im Pretty sure a rookie team can fill one out and put it toward the NASA grant, but not to actually win the chairmans award, because the award itself is to show what your team does in the community to promote FIRST. And, this is quite hard to do when its your first year.

Re: Rookie in the Chairman's

Congrats #2026!!

They won the Rookie All Star!!

Just commenting sthg...
is it that difficult for a rookie team win these awards in fact?
My team won the Engineering Inspiration Award and we are rookies, as well we won the Safety Industrial Award... some teams told us that these both awards are very hard for a rookie team to win...

Is that truth?

Yes, the Engineering Inspiration award is typically difficult for rookies to win. However, the fact that your regional is very small (most have between 30-60 teams, to Brazil's 15) helped narrow the field a lot. Nonetheless, there were several veteran teams at your event, yet the judges thought that you as rookies were doing the best job to advance appreciation and respect for engineering. You should be very proud of your accomplishments, and keep up the good work.
