AVA animations

As all AVA entries have alredy been submitted, could anyone email me or somehow post their 3ds file? I would just like to get a feel for what an animation would look like once it is finished.

You can find animations there (video files)

Unless you are looking at the actual 3ds max files.

so you mean .max files? .3ds is an exported file not the actual save.

Re: AVA animations

Well, our .max file got about 20 megabytes of size, don't think about other teams, but if you include textures and everything, it could be a 30 MB zipped file which isn't that easy to store (well not with my slow connection =p)

Anyways, our .max file is gone, they have disassembled the pc I worked with and I dunno where the HD is, if it is still intact indeed...

Re: AVA animations

It's a little more complicated than just posting the .max file somwhere. You also need all the resources, like textures, that go with it. On top of that, scenes have externally referenced scene .max files (Xref) which would have to be included. They would all have to be placed in folders where the program will look for them. So it's kind of complicated and unless a team has gone to some effort to make their projects easy to distribute, it's probably not worth the effort of making the project files public.

However, I am pretty sure that there is a way to compress all of those resources into a format that can be distributed as a single file. It does this automagically when network rendering. But this still leaves the problem of having really big file size when you include all the textures and external files.

Edit - Also, please name your threads something descriptive.

you should have organized all of your textures and know where you got them from, So you just put everything in a folder then zip it.

3ds Max has a great archive utility that grabs all files associated with a scene (including maps, wherever they're located) and zips them up into one tidy file. It's under the "File" menu and I think it's called Archive, but I don't have Max installed on this computer, so I can't be sure.

when you open the file and it cant find the texture it will ask you to locate it. Just pick the path where the texture is and its done.
