Dang! It looks like I accidentally left my flux capacitor on again...
 Not that it's solved, it looks like www.usfirst.org and www.innovationfirst.com work again.

And ... after finding another half-dozen sites that didn't work (and another half-dozen that did) I've rebooted my computer and everything is miraculously OK again. I love computers. I do.
