Re: 2007 Great Lakes Regional, Best Ever?
Big props to alliance 8 for putting up the biggest fight of any underdog so far, despite being the 8th alliance.
Edit: In fact, they put up the biggest score of ANY alliance, excluding alliance #1 itself. Edit: Continuing list from previous page. 1. 1114 - 67 - 57 2. 573 - 503 - 1015 3. 1213 - 322 - 33 4. 308 - 469 - 68 5. 494 - 1023 - 1503 6. 70 - 279 - 1596 7. 818 - 326 - 1 8. 548 - 65 - 1504 Bold indicates an underdog winning. I like it when that happens ![]() Round 1 of QFs 1 beats 8 5 beats 4 2 beats 7 3 beats 6 Round 2 of QFs 1 beats 8, eliminating them 5 beats 4, eliminating them 7 beats 2, forcing a 3rd game 6 beats 3, forcing a 3rd game Round 3 of QFs - 2vs7 and 3vs6 to go 2 beats 7, eliminating them 6 beats 3, eliminating them So 1, 2, 5, and 6 move on to semifinals Round 1 of SFs: 1 vs 5 and 2 vs 6 5 beats 1 - Shocker: Alliance with former triplet 1503 beats alliance with 1114 in it. Once the student, now the master? stay tuned. 6 beats 2 - I'm dying to see the video of alliance 6, they seemed to have gotton some really good alliance partners despite picking near-last. Round 2 of SFs 5 beats 1 - WOW, the former triplet takes out its spawner. I want to see this video too. 2 beats 6, forcing a third game Round 3 of SFs 2 beats 6, eliminating them and going on to finals against alliance 5 Round 1 of Finals 5 beats 2 Last edited by Bongle : 10-03-2007 at 15:41. |

Great job on the win, guys! It's just too bad that so much stuff went wrong with our alliance's robots right out of the gate.

I have to say that I think our alliance proved how rank has no real showing. Our team was seeded around 40ish. However, we got selected to be an alliance partner, mainly for our ramps, but we ended up not even using them. I think the key to this game is solid offense performance and critical placement of the spoiler. Also, I'm interested in the selection of my team. It appeared as if other alliances were hoping to choose us because when 494 chose us (much to our surprise....we had no idea they were interested in our robot) that other alliance captains began to frantically shuffle papers and what not. But maybe it's just my imagination... Thanks to everyone for their help and congratulations to everyone. GLR was a great regional and I hope Boilermaker can bring on the heat next weekend! Also, maybe we can finally get that regional win and we'll see everyone down in Atlanta this April. Last edited by KTorak : 10-03-2007 at 21:19. |

Re: 2007 Great Lakes Regional, Best Ever?
I would like to thank team 494 for picking us, and both them and 1023 for being awesome alliance partners. We really regret that we weren't able to fix our arm in time after it got mangled in the second match of the finals...
Congratulations to teams 573, 503 and 1015 - you guys worked together really well as an alliance, and your combined scoring and ramping power was a sight to behold. Quote:

On behalf of team 1015 I would also like to thank teams 573 and 503, this was our most exciting year ever!
I only hope we can scrounge up the money to be able to go to championships, it would be our first year there. |

IMO - with over $6M cash or equivalent on hand, FIRST can afford to award Championship entry free to Regional winners.

Re: 2007 Great Lakes Regional, Best Ever?
What an amazing Great Lakes Regional! It truly lived up to its name as an exciting event.
First, from Team 67, thanks to Team 1114 and 57 for making an amazing alliance. This was the only time (and it happened several times, in fact) that I have seen two keepers hung by the same alliance during autonomous. What a rush! Then congratulations to 503, 573, and 1015 in their victory. What a great job. And especially after the two partners fell off of 503 in the quarter finals. And Frogs...The double again (did it last year at West Michigan). Winning the competition and the Regional Chairman's. Great Job!!! Clink-Clink. Good luck in Atlanta as a Chairman's challenger. Again, Great Lakes did not let us down. It was a great event to watch and be part of. |

As a former member and current mentor of 503, I'd also like to extend my thanks to 573 and 1015 for forming an amazing alliance. We had some scary moments, but we pulled through all right
!Walking by Team 67 and hearing them call out "We love our Froggy Friends!" brought a HUGE smile to my face . As far as we've come these past few years, we still look up to The HOT Team as a shining example of FIRST success.I would also like to point out that Team 280 TNT is possibly the classiest group of students and mentors I've ever had the pleasure of running into. Every time we've gone down to the field during awards ceremony (all 4 years I've been at Great Lakes), TNT 280 has lined up to give us high fives. You are really a wonderful group. |
