Disaster that struck

What is the biggest disaster that has ever happened for your team? I've been thinking a lot about this one because our team had quite an emotional setback only a few days ago. One of our rookie teammates who was going to work on animation with me passed away unexpectedly. Since that's happened our team's had a difficult time focusing. But hopefully we'll pull together when we leave for Conneticut next week. Sorry if this seems really off topic, but it's something that's been eating me up for a while.

That really whomps. For my former team the disaster was some of the mentors. We had problems with responsibility and other issues. You know things aren't going well when the teenaged kids have to take the responsibility because some of the adults won't. We also had problems with adults adhering to the idea of gracious professionalism. There were more problems but that's the main part of our set backs.

Unhappy Irk...

I always feel odd when someone tells me that someone they know passed away. The only thing I can really do is offer my condolences and If you need anything, feel free to CDIM me or email me.

98 nationals, finals, second game: A steel rod connecting the ends of a chain snaps in half sending our manipulator arm crashing down. Only reason we didn't win '98.

We had one of our original members that had been with us since the beginning pass away this past November. Kuli had been with us since we started in FIRST back in '96 and had been to every competition (we think) that TJ had ever been to. I know it's tough when you lose someone in FIRST because you always seem to have a deeper connection to them.

Sorry to hear about your teammate, I offer my condolenses. One disaster that happened this year to our team was one of mentor's son and teammate's brother was in a major car accident during the 6 weeks. It really took all our energy to focus on the project, but we eventually helped eachother and made it through it. While we were at nationals he made a major breakthrough he could walk without help and also he regained sight in his eyes, so things do get better eventually. Again I offer my thoughts and prayers to your team, you guys will eventually get through it.

Wow...I'm so sorry for everyone that has lost team members. It makes me feel like my team's disaster isn't anything compared to that. But, I would have to say that the worst thing to happen to my team, was a couple of years ago, the day of a post season competition, one of my team members broke the robot. I don't know what happened, all I know is they pulled a few people out of class for the rest of the day to try to fix it. Other than that, I can't think of any real "diasters."

the worst for us was...

was when in September of 99 Tropical Storm Floyd flooded the downtown area of Bound Brook in 15-16 FEET of water, we were out of school for a month and ahalf and a few of our members were affect by the flood, Thankfully no body was hurt...
and again my condolenses go out to all those who have lost someone special to them...

The worst thing that happened to my team happened this year a week before the LA regional. One of out team's most loved supporters passed away from a massive heart attack a few days before the regional. He was always there for us both with his financial aid and genuine love for what we did. As it worked out, some of our team missed the finals of the LA regional to attend his funeral, and we dedicated our win there to him. My heart goes out to all the teams that have lost a member or supporter.

The most devasting thing that has happened to our team was sort of a bunch of things that happened all at once in the 2000 season. Our main sponsor laid-off (when they weren't willing to move to CT) two-thirds of our egineers and had to reduce the amount of money they gave to us by ten thousand dollars. Fortunately, we lost only three of our engineers because of this. Then we moved three times during the six weeks. We got really good at packing everything up and moving to another location in just a few hours. This, however, caused lots of problems (as you would expect). Oh well. We survived.
