I did see them there, and myself and another mentor helped out 1933 who was having drive train issues.

If any of the British teams are in the London area I would love to help them during my semester abroad.

2199 you had a very well fought match and everyone on our scouting team agreed you guys were one of the best rookie ringer scorers at the regional.

Re: 2007 Chesapeake Regional - Discussion

I just want to offer a big warm hug to all the teams that were struggling with adversity over the past three days. You all battled weather, sickness, bad luck, exhaustion, and a multitude of other things. And most importantly, you held your heads high. Personally, I was contemplating not coming on saturday because I felt pretty sick. But when I thought of how much you guys had overcome over the prior two days, I knew there was no way I was going to miss it. I'm so glad I made it.

Big congratulations to 293, 203, and especially 75- chairman's award winners at Trenton and now Chesapeake champs, mighty impressive guys. Also thanks to Daisy and Lenny. We enjoyed chanting for you, and I feel incredibly lucky to have met you all.

Finally, a heart-felt thank you to everyone who has inspired us. It's incredibly fun to go to Annapolis, in fact it feels almost like a second home for us. So thank you to Jenny Beatty and all the other chesapeake volunteers and judges. I am definately making it back from college next year to see you all.

Re: 2007 Chesapeake Regional - Discussion

I have to say one thing I noticed in between 612's trip from VCU to Chesapeake is the very large drop in ramp bots and ramp tries from week 1 to week 3. VCU had a ramp bot (often capable of lifting 2 bots 12+ inches) in almost every match, chesapeake had much less of that variety (sometimes with ramps that lift one bot)

The finals were also decided by pure rack and not ramp, unlike VCU's massive ramps and lifters that decided the win in almost every playoff match.

Very interesting to see the different styles of play, can't wait to see what's at Championships.

Very interesting to see the different styles of play, can't wait to see what's at Championships.
A lot of people noticed the significantly lower amount of ramp bots at Chesapeake. This was also true at several other week 3 regionals, including Peachtree and Midwest. I even had a mentor from 1885 (116's ramp-bot partner at VCU) talk to me at the regional commenting on the lack of ramps. The (very few) proficient 2@12" ramps did very well, and even several 1@12" had a pretty big impact. But the lack of ramps led to a much more rack-focused style of play, and large rows became much more common as bots continued to attempt to score on the rack even during the last few seconds.
Many (including myself) feel that the winning alliance at Championship will have 3 bots capable of scoring well on the rack (at least 2 capable of easily scoring on all 3 levels, and 1+ capable of quickly removing spoilers), and a reliable 2@12" lift/ramp.

Definetly. Racks will be the name of the game in the elims at Nationals. Spoilers are finally going to be the most important game pieces. And those keepers will be invaulable when you have six robots on the field that score efficiently. The winning alliance is going to have one team that floor loads and one team that HP loads. Best way to distribute those tubes.

Anyway, congrats to 293, 75, and 203. Amazing machines. And 1727 for chairmans! Great job everyone. I had an awesome time volunteering. See you all next year!

Annapolis had to be the most fun regional I've ever been to. Every team was nice and helpful, and the robots were awesome. The finals were very exciting to watch especially all the wins for the underdog teams. Congrats to 293, 203, and 75 the Chesapeake regional champs, and thanks to Daisy and Lenny for the great alliance.

Re: 2007 Chesapeake Regional - Discussion

Chesapeake was a lot of fun! All of the teams were super nice and fun to play with. The volunteers were tireless and the pit divas never ran out of energy. The entire event ran like clockwork; lunch never had to be reduced or eliminated to make up for lost time. Even the weather conditions on Friday and Saturday couldn't bring it down. Our team went from being in 38th place at VCU to becoming finalists at Chesapeake! Congrats to 293, 203, and 75 for kicking our butts in the last two matches; you guys were amazing!

Re: 2007 Chesapeake Regional - Discussion

On behalf of Team 75, I'd like to thank every single team at the 2007Chesapeake Regional. You were all such amazing people, and you made my experience at this competition truly unforgettable.

Congratulations to 1748, 339, 612, and thank you for an incredible final match during the competition. Your robots were all outstanding.

Congratulations to 1727 on their Chairman's Award and to 768 for their EI Award. You both deserve these awards so much and you are amazing teams.

Also, Congrats to 836 for their award, as well as to the two Rookie teams who won awards and who did a fantastic job at the regional.

Finally, thank you teams 293 and 203. You were both the best alliance partners that anybody could ever ask for.

I can't wait to see you all in Atlanta!

Re: 2007 Chesapeake Regional - Discussion

I'm proud of my alliance, Teams 869, 888, 2199, the number 8th seeded alliance overall, and didn't have anyone orginially seeded under 12th. We beat the number 1 alliance in the first round, then lost to them in the second match 54-32 because 888 went to far up our ramps, and bumped the wall, and fell back down. And then in heartbreaking format we lost in match 3 in a score of 32-30 because 2199 accidentally lined up wrong and over shot the end of the ramp, thus falling off. If they had made it we would've beaten then 60-32, unfortunately we did, and Overall alliance number 1 was about to win it all. Fast fact - we were the only team to beat 293 all competition, had the closest matches all playoffs with 293 + 75, and ended up jumping from 53rd to 4th.

I would like to thank 888 and 2199 on working so well, and doing so wonderfully with us, and congratulate Spike and his teammates on their victory, and all the other winners of the day.

Re: 2007 Chesapeake Regional - Discussion

The Chesapeake Regional was an exciting robotics competition and overall fun experience as a volunteer. I am definitely going to return next year and help out again because of all the cool people that I met.

Thanks to

“Momma” Troy and all the other team queuing volunteers that help with directing teams to the field. It was great working with all of you.

The Pit Divas for helping us get the teams out there on time.

To teams 1629 and 75 and all the other teams that were willing to help Team 204 out. Thanks tremulously.

I would like to mention a big shout out to Team 836, the RoboBees and Team 1629,GaCo for letting us join your alliance in the elimination rounds. If it wasn’t for electrical issues with the robots, who knows how far we would have come out in the elimination rounds. Both of our alliance partners were simply amazing on and off the field. Thanks again for letting us join your alliance.

Team 768 thanks Susan Sloan and the Regional Committee (you all know who you are ) for hosting a wonderful regional. Despite the bad weather and so many people falling ill, you managed to pull off a great event. I hope all the teams had as much fun as we did.

Our team had so much fun meeting new friends, greeting old friends, playing with everyone and we were thrilled to get into semi-final play. Congrats to teams 293, 75, and 203 for your super win. Kudos to our Baltimore friends for their awesome achievements, we are so proud of everyone. We look forward to seeing everyone in Atlanta next month!

Talking Re: 2007 Chesapeake Regional - Discussion

Greetings from the Robo-Lions. We thought the robot was going to be OK but it proved to be a lot more sturdy and reliable than we knew.
Our drive team (Nick^2) were both Freshmen and just kept getting better as the competition wore on.

Even though many thought we made some strange picks for the 8th seed it turned out just fine. 888 has been our mentor this year and we were relying on their experience and their ability to score to get us through. And who could resist Powercord's big 2-robot porch. It deployed reliably every time and was a real threat.
Congratulations to 293, 75, and 203 on their victory. They were all well designed and well driven robots and deserved their success.

We'll be back next year, a little older, a little wiser, and "roaring" to go!!!
Hope to see everyone at Chessie next year.
