Go to Post Right, play to win. Play to win the event or play to win one match? This year, unfortunately, they are not the same thing. - Paul Copioli [more]

The Year of the Tie?

I wonder if the abundance of ties will extend into the eliminations, making the overall process even LONGER than usual.

Keep your batteries charged!

Re: The Year of the Tie?

Definitely a year for ties. The possible scores are really discrete this year.

Re: The Year of the Tie?

0-0 penalty influenced tie in semis in St. Louis

Must have been a figment of the scoring system's imagination.

Score changed to 14-0

Re: The Year of the Tie?

Interesting point Trav. There were no 0-0 ties in the elims in NJ, but there were several resets.

Re: The Year of the Tie?

yea in NJ there were a couple times in the beginning but in eliminations there were no ties, it didnt bother this regional. The many restarts caused some delays though.

Re: The Year of the Tie?

My concen is the effect of ties on the rankings. Previously, a team would be shocked to have more than one tie in an event. Now, there are ties left and right and i think it may be affecting the rankings.

Re: The Year of the Tie?

Ties have played a very big role in the elims during Week 3. Hope all you guys are enjoying the marathon sessions!

My favorite was the rack symmetry of one of the ties at Midwest - it looked something like this:

Code:
- R R - - - - -
R R R R B B B B
- - - - - B B -
PSSSST!!!! Hate ties? Use ramps more!! 15, 30, 45, and 60 don't align with the 2, 4, 8, 16, etc. ringer scoring.....

Avoiding penalties also helps.....

The midwest ties made for a long day. The #1 alliance played a total of 12 matches. Six of them were the cause of ties. Three in the quarterfinals, four in the semifinals, and five in the finals.

Yes. Midwest regional's finals had 5 matches.

Teams: Even if you don't make it to elims, or lose a round, keep your batteries out and charged. One of the teams still in may need them.

Re: The Year of the Tie?

According to my stats, Boilermaker only had 2 ties, both 4-4. I don't recall many ties other than 0-0 at St. Louis.

EDIT: St. Louis had only 2 ties, both 0-0.

F-1 at MWR was 28-28... so close to being 30-28 but the stinger popped the ringer and it stuck there... oh how close. LOL. I wonder if there have been any regional finals that have gone longer than 4 matches.

Re: The Year of the Tie?

We had a 76-76 tie during our second quarterfinal match at SVR with 1516 and 1280 against 971, 1700, and 368. We each got 4 tubes on the middle row and ramped both robots 12". I absolutely loved those matches!

to add to that, the next match played almost identically. If 368 hadn't slipped off 1700's ramps, it would've been a second tie.

And in regards to Budda648, last year's SBPLI went to 5 matches due to a tie and a field reset
