Re: best winning alliances

I would like to see a repeat of my favorite alliance of all time, when we won nationals, it was 67, 330, 503. All of our machines this year are great so maybe we'll get lucky again...

Re: best winning alliances

A repeat of a complete alliance winning again is astronomical. Like Koko Ed said, this game is incredibly unpredictable. I mean, look at GLR. 1114 and 67 were objectively the most explosive tube scoring robots. They were on fire and somehow lost (i beleive there were some battery problems on thier alliance). Or what about Detroit? A robot without an arm or ramps was the number 1 seed?

The only thing i can think of is a 247 123 hookup. They have been pretty continuous. winning two regionals in the same year together is rare, but in this game they somehow did it.

I actually bet one of the champion teams will be somebody no one saw comming (like 296 and 522 last year. No one was talking about them before the weekend began).
I am honestly really glad you mentioned that. The teams at Nationals are going to need a bucket load of luck! >.< So Unpredictable!

Re: best winning alliances

in addition to coming up with a winning alliance, I actually think having a greater consistent STRATEGY against your opponents will be the ingredient to winning it all.
The components include:
1. scoring
2. defense
3. bonus point scoring
4. careful use of spoilers
and when to do what when, where, and how......

Re: best winning alliances

While it is improbable for a winning alliance to pair up at the Championship it is possible. If I remember correctly 67's alliance in 2004 won a regional or two together, and then went to take a division.

However, I agree...you might see one or two powerhouses together for an alliance, but not 3 "big names" there's no way that if a team is that prestigious that they'll make it through two rounds of picking to be picked. So while they might be amazing alliances, they won't be "superstar alliances" (think 217, 45, 1114 (I'm just using them as random teams since I know greatly of their prowess) I can't see anyone of those three making it through to get picked in the second round)

just my 2% of a dollar.

Re: best winning alliances

A teams 2nd round pick is what separates them from an okay alliance and defines them as a great alliance. We have almost always had a great second round pick, through vigorous paper scouting, our scouting database, luck, and watching countless matches on Friday night.
2006 regionals are a great example.
In NJ we picked 1279, a very good compliment to our alliance with 103.
In LV we picked 8, not only could they score, they could play wicked good defense.
2007 regionals
In NJ we picked 1302, they could cap 4-5 a match, play good def, and had a ramp!
In UTC we picked 2104, they were what we needed and could do what we needed every time. Many people say we could have won if we picked another capper and overloaded the rack with tubes. Yet, after watching the rounds, several times over, and going over the statistics, we know they were the best choice.

Personally, I really liked our 25, 103 and 1302 alliance.
