Hmmm.... I don't think the problem here is the COMPUTER being wrong... more like the SOFTWARE run on top of it *cough* Microsoft *cough*

The sad thing is that M$ developed this software back in the days of windows 3 (say 1991ish?)... that's given them time to work out the bugs. Perhaps they glazed over breaking the bank? *cough* Vista *cough*

Actually if you think about it, maybe they programed it to do that very seldom so that it can simulate you loosing a card and finding one of the wrong kind to replace it.

Vista solitaire is in fact different. It took them about 15 years, but it is finally changed!

Not too sure whats different, of course except the memory hogging Vista Glass Beveled Edges on the window, and the new card backs, and perhaps a new bitmap for the backgroud of the table to make it seem more 'fuzzy' like a real table.

Something tells me the engine inside is the same. I mean, why would Microsoft screw up the most used product for their operating system?

Re: pic: Computers CAN be wrong!

See...this is what I find funny about non-windows users. Microsoft comes out with a product that works quickly, but doesn't look the best. People call it ugly. Microsoft hears this and decides to make it look good. People call it a waste. What gives? Shut up and deal with it or get a computer that works. It's not that hard people.

Hey! I never complained about the look of Program Manager in Windows 1/3.... I never complained about the look of 95, 98, or 2k. Yes I did complain about XP (although grew used to it) due to all of the excessive under-the-hood-processes, which have now been dwarfed by Vista. A fresh install of XP had about 31 processes running on start-up... I don't even want to THINK about Vista!

Vista's look is not only excessive / resource-hogging / unnecessary, but I personally find it unattractive. I feel like I'm going to be cut on every corner of every window. It's too much sharp-looking detail that the wow-factor wears off quickly. It's also sad that you need 512MB of RAM to simply run your OPERATING SYSTEM.... Man, I thought the operating system was simply a platform for launching other programs!

I personally think that Microsoft missed the mark on Vista. It requires too new of a computer, is not compatible with enough things (yeah yeah I know, it will be in time, but still. Not being able to use my BRAND NEW tuner card really irks me...), costs too much, and no noticable new features. We didn't get the kernal that we were *promised* (not really promised, but this was supposed to be the newest feature of Vista), we got a copy of Windows Media Center that doesn't work fully, and a driver handler that doesn't accept most old XP drivers... Not to mention the cost (what consumer wants to pay THAT?) Did you guys see the article on Dell's 100 dollar computer that ran Linux (never released), until Microsoft slapped them silly and made them get rid of it, when the price of the same machine running their OS went up more than a hundred dollars....

http://news.com.com/Did+Microsoft+wa...3-6153904.html

"We should whack them, we should make sure they understand our value," wrote Paul Flessner, a senior vice president in Microsoft's server applications unit.

And I am a Windows user. I don't despise Windows or Microsoft, I just find it aggravating that all of the M$-Fanboys (no-one in particular, I just work with some people like this) are all like *bow* Microsoft *bow*... There are other viable solutions out there that are potentially better than Microsoft products. I just don't think we should stay attached to one corporation, as we have done for more than 20 years now.

DISCLAIMER (I can hear it already...): This was not intended to get anyone angry or upset; Just expressing my views on Microsoft and Vista.

Re: pic: Computers CAN be wrong!

You also must look at Microsoft's outlook on how long it will take before the next release of Windows. They're making the spec requirements so high because they're making the OS for the next generation of computers. If you remember, it took 6 years for Vista to come out after the introduction of XP. Computer technology jumps by leaps and bounds in 6 years. Odds are that you will buy a new computer within that timeframe, and it will be capable of Vista. In fact, if the current computers that are being sold right now can handle Vista, how much farther will computers be 6 years later? Also, 512 MB of RAM is nothing these days. I look at Firefox, right now, it's taking 120 MB of resources as I speak. I bought my laptop 3 years ago, and have upgraded the RAM from 512 MB to 1.5 GB. RAM is relatively cheap. As far as I see it, it's the best and cheapest upgrade you can make to your computer that will make a noticeable difference.

I actually kind it kind of sad in a morbid way that it took Microsoft 6 years to come out with a new OS... because the REST of the technology world does NOT jump by leaps and bounds of 6 years... It's more like 6 months. I'm not saying that Microsoft should release an OS every year (kind of like Apple... ahhh, but anyway), but 6 years is a LONG time to wait in the computing world. And they STILL rushed it... It's not like developers were perfecting the software for 6 years; developers had less than a year to get their stuff to work, and still most of the older peripherals that we all bought for XP (because it has been around for so long) aren't working. I'm not saying that Microsoft should have waited any longer; they NEEDED to get SOME kind of product out on the market before the rest of the world saw them as obsolete and left them, but I think that Microsoft should work on a GIANT service pack (we're talking gigs here) that updates the whole kernal, rather, trashes the old one and puts in a new one; and makes Vista what it was meant to be (for free of course. I didn't spend 350 bux to have to pay money to upgrade my software to a more stable environment). Kind of like the xbox of the 360. Did you know that today's 360 was Microsoft's concept of the original xbox? Except when Sony decided to release the PS2, Microsoft knew that they had to jump into the market to stay competitive, so they threw together the xbox from what is today's 360 project. Then of course they released the xbox 360 to compete with the PS3, but could not call it the xbox2... I mean thats just bad advertising; *Which would you want to buy? The Xbox 2 or the Playstation 3*... So that was smart on their part.

So lets just hope that there is a brighter future for Vista and all the money put into it. Soon.

Jacob

Wow, That turned into an OS battle really quickly... I guess that I'll have to learn to live with it.

Microsoft FTW! (I'm making this post from a Linux (Knoppix) PC )

Slightly more on-topic...
I can honestly say I've never had solitaire screw up like that before.

Re: pic: Computers CAN be wrong!

Unless you're really insecure with your operating system, I don't see much of a need to get really defensive about your favorite OS. I use Windows XP and Mac OSX for several hours per day, and they both have their pros and cons. If I had to choose between the two, I'd go with Mac OSX any day, but that's just my opinion.

A computer is a tool, to get a job done. That's all.
