Re: Predictions Week 5: Last Stop Before the Big Show... ...Part 2
We just paid for Championship. When the qualification matches are posted, people will see some great matches with AusTIN CANS (2158). We saved some really good teams from losing a match (especially the regional finalists) . We also played against quite a few great teams, 476 and 364. We scored 8 in a practice match, 5 in a couple qualification matches and used ramps twice. We also had our autonomous almost score on multiple occasions.
I think we just lost the pick to 1750 and 1745 because most teams were looking for defense in the 3rd alliance. 148's head mentor told us directly they were looking to pick us, but 148 was not able to make the picking decision on their alliance. Luckily, 2158 is going to championship and the robot has not suffered any major setbacks, so get ready atlanta, the ausTin Cans are coming ! Last edited by lynca : 03-04-2007 at 17:15. |

Two things that everyone (rookies and non-rookies alike) can take away from the very capable AusTIN CANS not getting drafted is that #1 all teams should do at least some scouting, you never know how the draft is going to go, if your team gets to be an Alliance Captain, you owe it to your team and the teams you draft to do your best to pick from the available teams. #2 do some work to make sure the drafting teams know about your team and your robot -- if one of the high seeds that ended up as an Alliance Capt. had heard from a pitch from 2158 prior to going to the draft, perhaps they would have been drafted. At least try to make sure other teams are aware of you. Don't be obnoxious, but don't be a wall flower either. Joe J. Last edited by Joe Johnson : 03-04-2007 at 17:42. |

I noticed this as well. The captain from 1421 and I were socked that 16 hadn't been picked before we got to pick the 3rd robot in our alliance. They had an effective arm, an autonomous that consistently scored keepers, and a fast crab drive that their driver could handle. The ausTIN CANS were next on our list, but 16 was just too good of a catch to pass up. Also, I was shocked that 624 wasn't picked. They had a strong drive train (4 CIMs with DeWalts, and wedge top on all their wheels I believe) and that awesome double fork lift.
