Re: 2007 Championship Divisions

Qualifying Teams have until Friday, April 6th to get the entry fee into the hands of FIRST. My guess is that the official lists will not be available until after then. I know of one Rookie All Star team that is definitely going that is not on the current list of 325 teams, that tells me that FIRST is only adding teams to the list as they recieve payment. 336 teams would be a round number of teams to work with. 84 teams per division would divide evenly by six and by my estimation would give each team seven qualifying matches. Roughly ten hours of matches with ten matches per hour would give you 100 matches. 84 teams divided by 6 gives you 14 matches to get every team in. 100 divided by 14 equals 7.14 matches or seven matches per team. Please don't crusify me if someone else has different numbers. It would certainly be great if we knew Friday night or early Saturday. It is so much easier to get preliminary scouting informaiton together before you leave home.

EDIT: Whoa! Just saw the post before mine. 344 Teams! So goes my theory. The All Star I was refering to is listed.

EDIT: Sorry Raul from 111, I did not see your earlier post, my mistake, at least we agree on the numbers though!

Can anyone possibly give me an estimate to how many more teams may be added. I know it's not so much of an answerable question to ask, but what's a good range?

0- any multiple of 4 up to 16 (ie 0, 4, 8, 12, 16)

16 more would be 90 teams per division (360 total), no surrogates. I think we can handle that (376 pit spots ). They certainly have no shortage of waitlist teams (like previous years).

However, I think 0 or 4 is more likely.

Don't think for a minute that there will be no surrogates, even if all the numbers are evenly divisible by 4 and the number of matches per team. This year's scoring system seems fixated on ensuring that each match consist of one team from the first 1/3 of teams numerically, one team from the second 1/3, and one team from the last 1/3. The "thirds" appear to be across all 2007 registered FIRST teams, not just those teams attending a particular event or in a particular division. Thus, if there are more teams in the second and third thirds than there are in the first third, some teams in the first third will wind up with a surrogate match at the end.

Having said that, the scoring system developers have an extra week to tweak the system before the Championship Event. No telling what improvements they might make to it.

Re: 2007 Championship Divisions

I'll laugh when FIRST decides to change their algorithm for creating the divisions. They did change the scheduling algorithm after all...

The 3 pools DO fill up based on the particular teams at that event. Just compare Philly and Colorado match lists. If the number of teams is not divisible by 3, the lower number pool is the last to fill.

If each division has 90 teams that is 30 even in each pool, and 15 match average cycles. Now I am not saying the scheduling algorithm will not schedule 6 surrogates just for the heck of it, but it doesnt have to.

Re: 2007 Championship Divisions

Yea.. here's what they do: break the list into 4 pools of teams. Pool 1 with the 344/4 lowest numbered teams, and pool 4 with the 344/4 highest numbered teams. The first matches this season have been so darn 1337 ub3tr g00d suepr crazzzy that the idea haver for this stupid (but good in theory) pooling systems decides, why the heck not.. one team from the top of each pool gets picked out and put in a division. With every pass a division gets one "super veteran," a "veteran," an "intermediate," and a "rookie."
