Today's post was made possible by the letter's G & P..
Alone they don't mean very much, but together they make a world of difference..

That said.. Good luck to ALL competitors involved in the Autodesk Award.

Re: Vote for the Autodesk Inventor award!

Sorry if this comes across as an advertisement, since the awards process is very different this year and registering can be complicated, we simply wanted to encourage all FIRST students to vote for the entry of their choice.

Yes, Team 342 is proud of our work. We've spent countless hours learning the ins and outs of Inventor, modeling the robot, having fun working together and eating too many cookies. We hope that our experience encourages more FIRST students to work with Inventor. As you'll see in the next few days, we are also trying to start a discussion in the Chief Delphi community about Autodesk Inventor and robot design.

If any other teams would like to post about their entries or the awards process in general, please do! Maybe together we can foster a postive spirit of coopertition.

One of the first facts about Team 342 and Autodesk Inventor is: Approximately how many pieces are needed to model the Rack n’ Roll playing field?

Check tomorrow for the answer and some more fun facts!

Re: Vote for the Autodesk Inventor award!

The answer for yesterday's question from dancingmagneto1 is:

1096 parts! That definitely takes forever to load.

Question for today I am wondering is:

What is the newest version of Autodesk Inventor?

Does anyone know??

Re: Vote for the Autodesk Inventor award!

Dan's correct. Autodesk did just release Inventor 2008, which looks very cool. In 2007, most teams used Autodesk Inventor 11, which was released in April, 2006.

Today's Question:

How many educational licenses does Autodesk give to FIRST?

Check back tomorrow for the answer...

Talking Re: Vote for the Autodesk Inventor award!

the answer for yesterday's question is:
Autodesk gives out ten Inventor licenses to each FIRST team. Autodesk has given over $72 million in software donations to FIRST teams since 1972. Thanks Autodesk!

Today's question is " what kind of projects do you think autodesk inventor could be used for?"

do you think could be used in an electronic foosball game?mmmm...

Before heading for lunch i just want to share a little bit of my experienced that I had with FIRST and of course desingning with autodesk inventor. This is my first year on the team, but not only on the team but also in your country. I am a exchanged student from BOLIVIA, and I've been living here for about 7 months. And one of the greatest experiences I had here, and helped me to find that science and techonology are amazing ,was being part of a desingn team, being part of First, where I learn how to use the software autodesk inventor. All these has been such a great experienced, an experienced that I could not have in my home country.
I am glad to be part of all these/

Re: Vote for the Autodesk Inventor award!

Forgive me if everyone already knows the answer to this question. I am buried under an avalanche of emails.
Was there an email blast sent to every team about this awards process? If so, let me know when. (I can't access the FIRST site for some reason today.)
Thanks.

Actually, I'm not sure if there was an e-mail sent out. The top five were announced Saturday (3/31) morning and voting will close April 13th at 4pm. The winners are announced at the awards ceremony at the Championship on April 14th. That's why we started this thread, we're very proud of our work and excited about the work of other teams and want to have it voted on and judged by the entire FIRST community.

Re: Vote for the Autodesk Inventor award!

The answer for yesterday's question from Maricruz is:

Autodesk Inventor is used for modeling all sorts of applications, from developing consumer products to creating cars capable of traveling at over 200 mph! The software can even be used for an electronic foosball game!

http://www.americanmachinist.com/304...e/False/15014/

Question for today I am wondering is:

How many pieces did it take to model 342’s robot? Other teams, how many parts did it take to model your robot? What was the most challenging part/assembly?

Does anyone know??

I don't know exactly how many parts 103 had, but I do know that it was enough to "blue screen crash" a 7 processor super computer when trying to render the full robot (reason why we don't have a full rendered robot)

Is the Inventor Studio rendering process multithreaded? Because if it isn't, will only take advantage of one processor at a time (for the main thread, which usually does all of the work).

I wonder how the award judges balance super-detailed entries (which can take several minutes to load, and several seconds to redraw), with the ones that are highly accurate in terms of constraints, dimensions and parametrization, but which omit high-overhead/low-return details like gear teeth or IC legs.
