Re: CURIE Discussion - 2007 Championship

I would keep an eye on team 1675...They always seem to struggle in the regionals but pull it all together in Atlanta.

They finished 10th in their division last year and was the #1 back up robot for the final rounds. They got in when another robot broke down (remember the Leher report on PBS) and performed well but were defeated by the alliance that eventually won the division.

It surprising they didn't get picked up by an alliance. They're my sleeper pick for 2007.

Re: CURIE Discussion - 2007 Championship

I don't think you will really be able to pinpoint at all where the members of the alliances will come from, which is why it's going to make Curie more competitive and exciting.

Re: CURIE Discussion - 2007 Championship

I think everything that will be said from now on would be repeated from earlier in this thread. ie, "Watch out for 1114 and 330!!!"

Does someone have something unique to post? Like... I don't know. Unique... not something about who's going to win, because I can assure you that there's a good chance that it won't be who you think. I donno... just an idea

Re: CURIE Discussion - 2007 Championship

I know there was a thread on where everyone is staying for nationals but I'm gonna ask again so we can see who all from Curie is staying together.
Team 1270 will be staying in the Westin.

Re: CURIE Discussion - 2007 Championship

I watched video of the first 10 teams on the Curie list. IMO 67 had the best bot among those. It looked like they just had bad luck/strategy in the elims or they would've done better in regionals. Keep an eye on them.

Re: CURIE Discussion - 2007 Championship

There are couple of other threads going on discussing what kind of alliance can win the match and what kind of robot is yours.....

So I'll just share what I, personally, think about the division as a whole. I think this division has the potential to actually win the Championship. If you take a look at the list again, you can easily find awesome scorers, awesome def bots, and awesome ramp climbers and deployers. Its all going to boil down to alliances. I really cannot say what kind of alliance can win the Curie and the Championship, as everything is possible. It's going to be all about the strategy and who you're playing against.
I would say for sure that good hybrid bots (scorers and ramps) are going to be really helpful, and might play a key role in an alliance. Other than that, I just cant wait......

w000t! for Curie!

Re: CURIE Discussion - 2007 Championship

dude, curie is gonna be great!!! im at my computer and i am shaking i am soooo excited. maybe we'll get to hook up with our friends from chantilly (612) again. u guys are awesome.
we are siked to be in such an awesome division. it's gonna be tough. for the alliance parings, the second pick will be very important, just remember that. especially for the first few alliances. because there are enough amazing robots in curie that the 8 seeded alliance can get 3 very, very strong robots.
so my message is.... DO YOUR SCOUTING!!

my $.02

Couldn't agree more. Team 180 had the BEST ramp in Florida, just to give you guys an idea... take last year's (2006) ramp and fold it quite a few times, you have SPAM's ramp.

The division is packed, I already know which division I will be walking around the most at championship. So many good robots to see in action, and so much to learn from these teams. Definitely looking forward to it.

Re: CURIE Discussion - 2007 Championship

1510 wildcats are very excited for Curie division this year!

I wish we had shown what we could do at San Diego a little more. Our BaneBot gearbox broke literally 5 minutes before they kicked us out of the pits on thursday night. The next day we quickly put in a new one (missing the opening ceremony and one match) but when we plugged the electronics board back in, the lower arm pot was put in backwards so it burned out and we spent 2 matches trying to find the problem. We changed the pot and were finally out for one of the matches, but our arm presets were oscillating like crazy because of the new pots. By the time we finally got everything figure out, it was Friday after all our matches... yay for a series of unfortunate events.

However, we have tested our autonomous (Saturday morning and two matches on Saturday) and we have it working at 100% (about 7 tries). Also, our arm is working perfectly again, and we found out we can do human loading (over the wall) easily as well. So we hope to show everyone what we can really do this time.

I can't wait to see this competition. So many good teams, its going to be amazing. See you all there and the best of luck to all of you at the competition. Hope all you robots stay alive and running the whole time
