Plays of the Year

two part question.

1. What was your teams greatest play this season? (from the first match to the final match)

2. What was the FIRST play of the year?

Re: Plays of the Year

I can't answer 1, really, but I think it's fair to say the single greatest play, if only because of its consequences, took place in the very last match.
A team on the red alliance (I think 190) pushed a tube onto 71's ramp. This play ultimately prevented the blue alliance from ramping a second robot (179) and allowed red's 5 point victory. It was a brilliant play using strategy to counter an alliance with stronger robots.

It was actually 987 that did that as 190 waited with the ramp ready to go. As both teams seemed very ramp cautious with ramps deployed well in advance of the 15 second end, 987 put the tube they had on the ramp without penalty. I don't know if they had planned that beforehand, or came up with it on the spot, but it looked really cool on the webcast. Wish I could have been there to see it in person.

If last year's "A-Bomb" was loading balls from your robot into an alliance's robot, then this year's A-Bomb is certaily what 987 did in the waning seconds of this year's championship. They placed the blue ringer in their claw on top of Team 71's deployed ramp, then dashed back to their own home zone to join Team 177 on top of Team 190's platforms. The play was brilliantly executed and extremely effective.

In the last fifteen seconds of the match, everyone in the audience knew that the only thing that mattered was if Swamp Thing could get on top of Beatty. The blue tube bounced them down the ramp once, and then it seemed as though they had gotten it out of the way and were going to make it up, but they apparently high-centered and got stuck for the last ten seconds. It was amazingly intense, and with the final score differing by only 5 points between the two alliances, it was what made all the difference.

Congratulations to all six teams duking it out in the finals on Einstein, but that is, in my opinion, the most ingenious play all year.

Best play off the year is in Newton match 40, executed by 111 on their partners 1574. You must see it.

If you're talking about the match where both of 71's partners made it up the ramp in the last five seconds, I agree. That was quite amazing.

Re: Plays of the Year

we lost this match in the finals because of our transmission plates, along with one of our alliance partners. And of course the other teams great skill, mainly.

But the play is when 75, 293 we're trying to complete a full row on the top rack, our human player stopped it by scoring on a spider leg on the top rack.

I have to agree, this was pretty darn cool. For those of you who weren't there, 1574 got a ringer stuck on their flag. 111 proceeded to remove it and score with it.

Re: Plays of the Year

my team's best play of the year was at BMR, when 85 was positioning themselves to make a row of 4, and we backed into them, and placed our tube in their spot. Ultimately that play won us the match.

I didn't get to see the championship though, I'll have to look at the archives.

494,1503,1023 At the GLR against 1114,67,57. The rack was filled with tubes and 494 played awesome D against 1114. At the end of the match our allaince had two spoilers on the rack favoring us!!

Re: Plays of the Year

I was watching the championship and I saw a really good play, unfortunately I have no idea what match it was in, it was in eliminations though.
Anyway, This one team had deployed their ramp and had one robot up on it but they were slightly on top of a ringer. In the last ten seconds, their alliance partener, who I'm pretty sure was 1503, pulled the ringer out from under the ramp, validating the thirty point lift. Amazing teamwork.

Re: Plays of the Year

It is a tie for us.

At Toronto, we scored 92 points by ourselves (minus 1 ring) by placing 4 and lifting for 60.

At Atlanta we put up 5 tubes in a match (our high) but we still lost by 4 points.

At Wisconsin, we got a 45 point bonus in edition to 3 rings placed in the finals.

The winner is probably Toronto for me.
