I am upset for whoever did this, If you come to championships to get free stuff and sell it off, thats not cool, give it to your little brother or something, use it to get other kids involved in robotics, use it to start a FLL team, use it as part of a presentation for your team. BUT DON"T SELL IT so you can make a profit off it.

The only thing anyone should be making a profit from it for is to help get people excited in seeing what robots can do and where they are going. Anyone trying to sell them off are not true FIRSTers. Whoever did this should be ashamed of themselves. If anything, I know some little brother or sister would love to see one of those, or just keep it.

I saw that on Ebay this morning and thought the same thing. Oddly, I think the price was lowered significantly today. IIRC it had an opening bid of $49.99 this morning and a Buy it Now of like $80. I wondered if the seller had some inside knowledge of how much these things are going to cost at Radio Shack.

On that note, does anyone know how much they will be when Radio Shack puts them on the shelves? We have a robotics camp to do for junior high school age students this summer and I was curious if these would make good give-aways for the students. We don't have much of a give-away budget though.

OK, I hate to sound mean and am probably going to get a large amount of neg reps for this, but I actually disagree with the majority of you. Whoever posted it on eBay has the right to, they own it. It isn't up to FIRSTers to patrol eBay as the FIRST give-away police. Whatever is posted there is their own buisness, not yours.

Don't you think you're making a few mountains out of mole hills? I mean yeah, they look cool and they're limited edition, but if someone obtained one through a legal means, then I have no reason to believe it to be in anyway unethical or wrong to do this with it. How would you feel if other people criticized what you do with your own posessions?

I expected a little more maturity out of you guys, not a witch hunt because someone did something you don't personally agree with.

I agree that that person is now the rightful owner and that he/she can do whatever they want with it.
Whether its unethical or not (I wouldn't personally do it), its not my business to pass judgement.
I could see the group that made it be upset, but, they gave it away, releasing all rights to it as the owner

I also agree with Kelli and Matt's points. It's up to the owner to make decisions about their private property.

What a sweeping statement!

Who is to say that "using it for profit" is not for good? The owner obviously feels that it would do "more good" by being in the hands of someone else. The person who buys it may end up just as excited by robots as someone who had it given to them for free. In my opinion, keeping an item you do not want is MORE WASTEFUL than selling it to someone who does.

Please do not accuse someone of "not being a true FIRSTer" for doing something which is not unethical (and arguably beneficial). What it means to be "in the spirit of FIRST" is open for debate and interpretation. FIRSTers shouldn't "kick people out of the club" because they have a different perspective. FIRST is not a clique.
