Please keep it civil. Moderating has been tough the last few days.

poor little bug is right.
Im sure Koko Ed wil keep it nice and safe.

Anyways, I see both sides of the story. While it would have been nice if the person didn't want it to give it to a deserving person who would have been happy to have recieved one, it is (her) own personal item and (she) is free to do what she pleases to do with it.

Re: please guys don't do this (sell hand-outs on eBay)

Sure, everyone has the right to do whatever they want with their possessions but I guess I am just old fashioned. I figure if someone spends their money on something and then gives it to me because they want me to have it and think I would appreciate it then I shouldn’t try to sell it in such a public manner for all the world to see whether I like it and want to keep it or not. I think of it this way, if my grandfather gave me his pocket watch because he wanted me to have it, I bet he would get his feelings hurt if I pawned it because I wanted a new Ipod. Sure, I have the right to sell it and it is just a watch but is it worth having hurt feelings? Sure it is the owners right to sell it but I think it is kind of tacky and disrespectful. To each their own though.

Re: please guys don't do this (sell hand-outs on eBay)

I agree with the people who think it is the person's own decision whether or not to put it on ebay.

It was something that was won fair and square, and it may possibly be put to better use by giving it to a fellow team member or FIRSTer that may be interested in it, but if this is the way they chose to do that, I'll all for it.

Taking the (outside of FIRST) approach, I can only see this as being a positive impact to people who see this on ebay and question what it is.

Maybe by someone seeing this on ebay, they will realize that the program it was given away at is really cutting edge, and it may allow someone who has interest in robotics, and cutting edge technlogy ask where this came from and get involved in FIRST.

I'm sure none of you thought about that part when you started to shun the person who is selling it on ebay.

When old game pieces show up on ebay, will you shun those people who are legally selling those as well, or will you recognize it as a way to get more people asking what is FIRST, and get some new blood into the program?

Btw... this reminds me of a thread I started a long time ago.
http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/sh...highlight=ebay

My thoughts back then was "I'll post them here whenever I find them so we can keep the FIRST items in the family." which I still agree with, but if they "got out" is it such a bad thing? No. I don't think so because of the aformentioned reasons.

Just my $0.02.

Before this gets too out of hand, I am a programming mentor and I just wanted to let everyone know that I purchased the 'bug' from ebay and will be using it when our team (River City Robots 1094) go out on demos. We were not lucky enough to make it to Atlanta

That was only for overnight shipping.
$3.95 was for standard 2-9 day delivery. (9 days is more realistic depending on where you are in relation to the seller btw)

I've seen shipping prices even more crazy on ebay in the past.

If you want something right now or next day, you can't expect to be a bargain hunter. You have to be willing to pay.

Awesome. This time we have "kept it in the family" so to speak.
Enjoy it. It's a really cool device.
If you want, I can post video of them from Atlanta, or of the one I was lucky enough to win there at the webhug.
I havent even gone through my camera to see the quality of the pics/videos I took there.
