Red face Ranking

Can somebody explain to me how the ranking is computed. I'm from 829 and if I'm correct iin Archamedes we ranked 41 out of 86 while overall we were 151 of 344. Is it the win/loss then the Rank score or what?

Re: Ranking

Are you talking about the official FIRST ranking system? If so please consult pages 3-4 of the Section 9 of the manual (The Tournament).
In short though. Qualifying Points (QP) are the first factors. You get 2 QP for a win, 1 for a tie, and 0 for a loss. If teams have the same QP, then they are ranked based on Ranking Points (RP), which is the average losers score of their matches. If they are still tied it is based on their highest score. If still tied, it is decided by electronic coin flip.

Re: Ranking

Wins*2 + ties = match qualifying points (QPs)

The loser's score in a match = Match Ranking Points (RPs).

Teams are ranked first by their QPs, then in the case of tied QPs, they are ranked by their average RP.

However, I'm not sure if it is meaningful to compare the results in one division to the results in another. To take an extreme example: a team that places 40/80 in a championship division probably has a higher-quality robot than a team that placed 40/80 at a regional, but your method would rank them the same. There can be great variation among divisions.

I agree with this exactly but I was led to believe that for RP if you won you got the loser's score without penalty averaged in, but if you lost you got the loser's score (your's) with penalties averaged in. I have not seen this in print though.

You are correct.

<9.3.5> Match Ranking Points
All teams on the winning ALLIANCE will receive a number of ranking points equal to the unpenalized
score (the score without any assessed penalties) of the losing ALLIANCE.
All teams on the losing ALLIANCE will receive a number of ranking points equal to their final
score (with any assessed penalties).
In the case of a tie, all participating teams will receive a number of ranking points equal to their
ALLIANCE score (with any assessed penalties).
