We're planning on coming, hopefully with two robots. I'll have to prod our coaches to register.

Re: 2007 Mayhem in Merrimack

We have a couple of rule changes for Mayhem in Merrimack 2007

Spoilers have become "wrenches" to throw into the works of your opponent's strategy. A wrench placed on a spider leg that is owned by an alliance will revert the ownership of that leg to the OPPOSING alliance. (ie A leg with a red ringer covered by a wrench will be owned by the blue alliance) These changes are made regardless of which alliance places the wrench. The wrench can be removed and replaced at will by either alliance. This means that you can technically score points for your opponent by covering your own ringer with a wrench. A wrench placed on an empty spider leg is considered null. A ringer placed over a wrench (ie Blue placed a wrench, Red placed ringer) will be give the ownership of that leg to that alliance, and will prevent the wrench from coming off the rack (Rule G20, De-scoring). In the event that the ringer and wrench are removed and the wrench re-located, the 10 point penalty for violating rule G20 will be assessed, and the effects of the "illegal" wrench will NOT be counted during scoring.

Also!

We are playing a 2v2 game format just like the past two years. The same change will be kept throughout the elimination rounds as well.

For alliance selection, teams can not select within the top 8.

I'll do my best, this is not official, just my memory, so if i get something wrong, i'm sorry.

At the end of the qualification matches the top 8 were:
1-40-Trinity
2-190-WPI
3-1058-PVC pirates
4-501-PowerKinghts
5-1519B-Mayhem (2nd robot)
6-573-Paragon
7-238-Crusaders
8-549-Devil Dawgs
(i might have 6 and 7 backwards)

the alliances were:
1-40---131
2-190---166
3-1058---151
4-501---1519
5-1519B---40B
6-573----1735
7-238---155
8-549---549B

the top 4 alliances all won.
Then:
(4) 501 and 1519 beat (1) 40 and 131
(3) 1058 and 151 beat (2) 190 and 166

and in the finals....

The finals were interesting. 1058 and 151 were against 501 and 1519.
501 is a regional winner, and they could score 4-5 ringers per match.
1519 could only defend and deploy their ramp.
1058 is a very fast (omni) bot that loads from the HP slot. 5 tubes per match.
151 seemed to be having trouble, and could only score a few ringers on bottom.

Part way through the first match 501's elevator broke. So they and 1519 defended 1058, but 1058 still got 3, i believe, ringers. 1519 deployed their ramp, 501 climbed it and they won the first match.

501 called a timeout, to fix their robot. 151 also seemed to be having chain problems, so they used the time to fox their robot too. 501 couldn't fix their bot and so played defense on 1058. 1058 still scored a few ringers. 501 didn't have enough time to climb 1519's ramp, and so 1058 and 151 won the second match.

151 called a timeout, but was not able to get their robot to score.

In the beginning of the last match 1519 and 501 raced to the other end of the field, and boxed in 1058, hoping to prevent 1058 from scoring. But 1085 was broken anyway. Then 1519 deployed their ramp, (which was broken but barely functional) and 501 successfully climbed it to win the match. The rack was empty, and the score was 15-0. It was very exciting, and strange.

501 and 1519 had won.

Good job to all teams!
And thanks to 166 for hosting this event!
