Re: Mapping FIRST Teams
The Chairman's Winner section, is that referring to a regional win or championship win?

Re: Mapping FIRST Teams
I was intending for it to be Regional Chairman's win. Would you also like Championship awards?

Re: Mapping FIRST Teams
Doesn't matter to me, I was just wondering because my own team has won a regional CA a few times but never a championship CA. So I wasn't sure if we would get a Y or a -

Re: Mapping FIRST Teams
Team 159 had a map up on their website a while ago where teams could add themselves, it was a google map/google earth type thing, it eas really cool as i remember it, maybe we could find taht link,
only thing, it doesn't show that shaded region like that other FIRST map did but it does show regional events in blue, teams in red, and if im correct off season events or sponcers in yellow? |

Re: Mapping FIRST Teams
I was thinking of Regional Chairman's, because I can look up all the teams for Championship CA.

Re: Mapping FIRST Teams
Could you add a table for dormant or extinct teams? I think that could be interesting historical information to see mapped out.

Re: Mapping FIRST Teams
You're planning to make a global map of FIRST teams, right? If so, when are we expecting to see it?

Has anyone build a KML network link to the FIRSTwiki table? http://wiki.chiefdelphi.com/index.php/Team_Info If not, I have a weekend project... -Pete |

Re: Mapping FIRST Teams
Andrew,
I am replying regarding the regional in Houston, Texas. In 1998 there was a regional in Houston, it was held at Space Center Houston and 22 teams competed. The Southwest regional was a pilot regional to grow FIRST in other areas of the country. The regional did not return in 1999 due to the lack of local sponsorship dollars. The Houston teams that registered in 1999 had to travel to other regionals to compete. The closest one was the Florida regional. Team 57 competed in Florida in 1999. Since the Texas teams had no place to compete, Steve Alaniz and myself decided to approach FIRST about having a regional in Houston. That's how we became volunteer regional directors. With the help of BP, ExxonMobil and NASA sponsorship the Lone Star Regional was born. The Southwest regional didn't sound like it fit an event that was Texas size. Someone had mentioned to me that Texas was the Lone Star State. I ran this name up the flag pole and everyone loved it. So, thus it became the Lone Star Regional. The coolest thing about the Lone Star Regional is that back in 1999/2000 it was a grassroots volunteer effort that made this regional happen. I hope this helps. Lucia Sevcik, Regional Director |
