The Thunderchickens (217) applied for a patent for their continuously variable transmission used in 2002. The application number is 20040166981, with more details available here: http://www.freepatentsonline.com/20040166981.html. The patent does not appear to have been granted. Paul Copioli would probably have more details. See this white paper also: http://www.chiefdelphi.com/media/papers/1361 I'm definitely curious if there are others.
