Camera questions

We are a rookie team that did not put their camera on the robot this year. We are now trying to learn how to hook the stuff up that we didn't use this year so that we are ready for next year. We are not sure how to put it together and how to wire it . We also need help programming it.

Re: Camera questions

The best two things you can do are:
a: Read and understand the CMUCAM Camera Manual
b: Download Kevin Watson's sample software for the IFI_RC, frc_camera-21.zip, available at http://www.kevin.org/frc/.
This sample code pretty much does everything for you. It has a .txt file in the downloadable zip which explains how it works and how to use it. This is all you need to get going.
Good luck.

Re: Camera questions

c. Set the camera up stand-alone with either the Labview or Java GUI and learn what the settings do and how the camera responds to the target light before you try hooking it up to a robot. You need to know this "Noise Filter", "Confidence Factor" and "YCrCb" stuff to make the CMUcam work on your robot.

Re: Camera questions

Attached is a document that describes how to use it. I also have a post that tells some super secrets about how to make the camera oblivious to bright lights. I was pretty successful in using it this year.

Good Luck. Start tomorrow for next year.
