Re: Do you want a coke, a pop, or a soda?
Soda is the proper term. Coke is an overpowering disgusting brand of soda. Pepsi is teh roxors!
According to the equation of awesomeness, (Coke = M$ = Zip Tie) ? (Pepsi = Apple = Bar-Lok) (Coke = M$ = Zip Tie) < (Pepsi = Apple = Bar-Lok) I think that 'I would like some Pepsi' should be a choice. It is definatley the supirior choice. |

Referring to the map - I'd like to know what the "green areas" of "Other" call it. There's some big ol' blobs o' green in New Mexico. Last edited by Travis Hoffman : 24-05-2007 at 13:50. |

Re: Do you want a coke, a pop, or a soda?
As a kid, growing up in Baltimore, I used to call it soda-pop (well, my actual pronunciation was "doda-pop" but then, I was very young and had troubles with my "s"s) but now I say soda at home and if I'm at a restaurant, I order a "cola" (well actually clarified that as "A cola, please, coke or pepsi, whichever one you have" because I got tired of hearing "we have coke(pepsi) is that okay?").

Re: Do you want a coke, a pop, or a soda?
Always been pop for me. I didn't even know that the word "soda" was so widely used until I moved down to Illinois for a little while, I had always thought it was some old fashioned british term *shrug*

Re: Do you want a coke, a pop, or a soda?
It's called a "soft drink" for me. As far as my knowledge of Canadians goes, anglo Quebecers call them "soft drinks", Ontarians call it "pop", and les Quebecois call them "les boissons gazeuses" (literally, gaseous drinks).

It's Pop in Chicago.
I actually like Pepsi 100x better than coke. |

Re: Do you want a coke, a pop, or a soda?
I voted pop as there was no soft drink option. I use pop informally (at home or friends) and soft drink when out.

Re: Do you want a coke, a pop, or a soda?
According to the map, every single county in Connecticut refers to it as soda in the 80-100% category.
<Grammatical Rant> I always get annoyed at the general "coke" terminology, especially when people use it to refer to non-cola soft drinks. It's one thing to use it in a general sense for any cola soft drink, but when someone once asked me "Where'd ya buy the coke?" when I was drinking a Mountain Dew, that's where I draw the line. </Grammatical Rant> |

Re: Do you want a coke, a pop, or a soda?
How about tonic? I may not call it that, but the majority of my old-time New England family does. It'll always be soda to me.
Once, I was down south and ordered a "coke". It wasn't a Coke. It's like ordering pasta and getting a pizza. |
