Re: pic: Team Rush 27 - unofficial teaser

I don't think it will come as a big surprise to anyone that team 27 will have a turret this year. They are the turret masters for a long time. It looks good though, i wish i had a water jet.

Re: pic: Team Rush 27 - unofficial teaser

I thought you looked suspicious holding your shoe against the USB port on the computer last night. You must have a USB drive in it. What will Nike think of next.We will have to deal with you in our special way.

I wish I knew what that was also

The water jet work we had done was donated. They were very nice to help us out.

Actually it could be a shoe Camera... I don't know how you did it. I guess its time to beef up security.

Re: pic: Team Rush 27 - unofficial teaser

Speaking of turrets.
How have people designed cable routing through the turret for stuff above the rotation point?

Have you rotated so much that you have pulled cables out? That = Bad.

Just curious.

Re: pic: Team Rush 27 - unofficial teaser

We have always battled with how much rotation is to much. We have gone past 360 degrees in the past and had software stops on it. We would have to have a lot of extra slack in the system as it would shorten with the rotation. We also found it would get confusing at times where you were in the rotation. We had a button that would re-zero it if we got lost. Lets just say i wish the wires would stretch more at times.

We have tried to go with less rotation in the last few years, nothing more than 270 or so. If you are running balls through the center of the turret you will then have to run the wire around the outside which could limit you even more.

Of course you could try slip-rings. We have found them to be cost and time prohibitive but they may work for your application

i really can't seem to figure out why those two pieces are meshed. And I sure hope you can hold more than 5 balls.

Re: pic: Team Rush 27 - unofficial teaser

I don't remember what the weight is but its within the guidelines set for each Sub-team.

The ball elevator is just that, a way for the ball to get to the other device. We may have something else that feeds that.

They are coupled together so that the elevator transfers the ball thru the center of the turret.

How did you know what shape to cut the teeth on the large gear in order for the teeth to mesh properly, and did you also custom make the gear that meshes with this large gear?

Re: pic: Team Rush 27 - unofficial teaser

I can't vouch for this team, but what we've done in the past is used Inventor's gear generator and then CNC'd the drawings. The same could be done with a waterjet machine for smaller, more precise pieces. I have heard that plasma cutters are too messy to make gears, but our team doesn't have access to one.

I don't want to step on anyone's toes here, but i talked to AJ a lot about this and they waterjetted the large 12 DP gear using Inventor's gear creator......then the used 12DP gear stock and mated it to the globe motor to power their turret
