Re: Missing Seniors

I agree. We had many seniors on our team this year. Every single one of them were really helpful to myself along with the rest of the freshmen. They all had a role on the team, that no one else will be able to take over just quite the same. They will be missed a whole lot. Because of the graduating seniors, our team is really lacking in the number of team members. Any good ways to get people to try it out..........From there, FIRST is addicting, there should be no problems there. lol. Well back to the seniors, they all were great. We will miss you all!

Re: Missing Seniors

For several years in a row 294 has had every senior go on to pursue technical or engineering degrees. Is this true of other teams as well?

Also, think of it this way, for every senior leaving your team, that's a possible college mentor for another (from 294 to 973 for me).

No. Not all of the students from our team (118) pursue a technical or engineering degree. A leader that was a senior that graduated in the class of 2006 is pursuing a career in medicine although we tried as hard as we could to convince her to go into engineering.... We have another student who wants to be a dentist.

Seniors are the crown jewels of every team [IMHO] because they have knowledge and experience, and when ever you have a question, usually they will point you to an answer if they don't know it.

Re: Missing Seniors

1923's seniors mean a whole lot to us. As the class of '07 graduates, we'll be losing some pretty valuable members of the team. (Even though they may drive me crazy sometimes!) Our lead electrical guru is a senior, but fortunately he's going to be at Drexel, close enough to visit us to help out...if he isn't sick of us yet.

Re: Missing Seniors

I believe I speak for all of my fellow seniors when I say this...
You can never really leave FIRST.
FIRST is a universe in and of itself. It can never be taken from us. It can't merely be tossed aside as waste. The ones who age out will do so knowing that the underclassmen they may have poked fun at or downright hated will carry on the banner of their team.
And don't be suprised to see some of us at a Regional or The Championship Event for no other reason than to feel the intensity, the passion, the insanity-
In other words, to feel at Home.
Cheers.

Re: Missing Seniors

All 5 of the TechnoKats seniors are going to school for Technical/engineering degrees. 4 will be at one of the Purdue campuses and one at Rose Hulman.

Re: Missing Seniors

From an alumnus and mentor standpoint, I would like to thank and congratulate the 2007 leadership on Team 971. They did an excellent job in continuing the growth of the team, and this means a lot to those of us who worked hard to get the team to where it started this year.

I would also like to mention another special graduate on the MVHS team, Darren. Darren was not on the leadership end of things for his three years on the team, but was always an active participant. I personally don't think he's been recognized enough for his small but important contribution of being able to find the simple, quick and effective fixes to most problems.

Congrats to everyone on a job well done! I couldn't be more proud to be a mentor for you all.

Most of our graduating seniors do go to college and major in engineering, but we've had a few that majored in business or the arts, or just went straight to work as machinists and business partners.

Re: Missing Seniors

I as a senior will miss the CircuitRunners, the mentors, parents, sponsors etc., as well as my fellow seniors. But we are all going to be back mentoring teams be it the CircuitRunners, or new teams that we are currently making so it is all good.

We will definitely miss our seniors. Our seniors were freshmen in 1351's first year. It will be a huge change losing our founding members, with the experience of a rookie team.

But more than that, as Ed said, they were friends to all of us. Come visit!
