15 Pin Steering Wheels/Throttles

Does anyone have links to 15 Pin steering wheels and/or throttles?

We(4 people) have been looking for some all night on froogle and other sites and haven't found many

Re: 15 Pin Steering Wheels/Throttles

Have you thought about building your own?

I don't think it would be that difficult and you could add custom switches and any other features that the COTS models do not have.

You may want to check Ebay (search for Steering Wheel gameport) I have found some steering wheels but no throttles.

Re: 15 Pin Steering Wheels/Throttles

We were given an Xbox steering wheel that had a potentiometer in it. I rewired it to use the 15 pin adaptar, and it has worked nicely since.

Find a working wheel with a pot in it and rewire it to serve your purpouses.

Re: 15 Pin Steering Wheels/Throttles

Team #1388 has used a Saitek steering wheel that we've found on ebay for the last 3 seasons. They run about $5~$15 new.

Throttles are going to be a little bit harder to find. Another student on our team did find a flight throttle for us in 2005, but I wasn't happy with the way it worked. I would just recommend using a joystick.

Search for the Saitek R100 steering wheel on Google.
There are many sources for these steering wheels.
It is no longer made, but there is still some new old stock
out there.

For the "throttle" you still can't beat the CH Products flightstick.
This is no longer available new, but they come up on ebay now
and then. Check ebay every night and place your bid when you see
one.

Re: 15 Pin Steering Wheels/Throttles

I don't know where to get one now, but we (Team 116) used one for the 2001 season. It was my own personal steering wheel, which was a Mouse Systems BogeyMan Racing Wheel. Here is a photo of it from a post-season outreach event we did that year with Dean Kamen (and, of course, Dave Lavery) at the U.S. Department of Commerce, and there are a few other angles in the same album:

UPDATE: Looks like one is available on eBay at the moment. Link

Re: 15 Pin Steering Wheels/Throttles

We (team 1625) bought a saitek X52 joystick with throttle and used that to control the robot. We took it apart and wired all the buttons and switches into a 15pin db15 port to plug into the o/i
works great!
