1390's Robot T-shirt Shooter

Team 364 had the similar idea we had with shooting t-shirts at the audience of football games. At the beginning of the school year, we turned our 2005 robot into a t-shirt shooter and we brought it to football games and got lots of fanfare from our school. Here is some video from the past football season. Mentor Mr. McClure took and helped edit the video, and Barry Bonzack put some music to it. Thanks to FIRSTcast/openFIRST for hosting our video on the internet.

You can see the video here.

Re: 1390's Robot T-shirt Shooter

I love your creativity with the "rings" of PVC as a pressure tank.

We found that if you only open the valve for .25 seconds, you will have plenty of air flow to shoot the shirt with out draining the tank and having to re-pressurize it from 0 psi. Now, our tank is 450 cu. in, so you may not be pressurizing such a large volume.

BTW, is that talcum powder that gives the "smoke" effect? We put a handful of glitter in with our shirts for a sparkle trail, but not smoke. I like the smoke

Re: 1390's Robot T-shirt Shooter

This was a blast for the football season. It was collaborated with the cheerleaders, and sitting in front of an audience that came for a sporting event. It was a packed crowd for homecoming, so many people got to see the existence of team 1390. They cheered for it, and counted down before it shot. Not only does this large sports crowd now know about schs robotics, they think its cool. What a hurdle overcome, good job team!

Re: 1390's Robot T-shirt Shooter

Interesting recruitment idea.

I have a few questions about this.

Did you use any special valves? or those from the KOP?
Was that some sort of powder making the smoke? Or was that truly a relatively chilly night?
How long does your robot last on a charge at one of these functions? Did you need extra batteries?
Did your school put up any resistance to your project? and if so what was their reason?

Thanks in advance. Team 19 is trying to get back on its feet as this is the first year--as far as I know--that we have not been able to compete in FIRST. We have planned for something similar for lacrosse or rugby games this spring.

Re: 1390's Robot T-shirt Shooter

We've made a few tee-shirt cannons too, the cannon is wired to the robot so it can drive and shoot..it's mounted on last year's robot where it's claw used to be....we also made a regular potato gun that can shoot projectiles the length of a football field....at least only at 120 psi

1. It was not a special valve, we use a standard 24 volt, 1" irrigation valve.
2. It wasn't a chilly night. We use baby power for the smoke.
3. We ran the battery for an hour and half, during these functions and we did not have battery problems , so we had no need for an extra battery.
4. No our school did not have any resistance to our project what so ever.

Not only did we have no resistance, we formed a partnership with the SCHS varsity cheerleaders. We met with them a week ahead of time to see how we could collaborate with eachother.
